BISHOP DUNNE DIGEST NEWS AND STORIES FROM OUR SCHOOL
NEW TRADITIONS ON THE HORIZON After 19 successful years, the Bishop Dunne 100 Dinner is retired After nineteen successful fundraising years, we are retiring the Bishop Dunne 100 Dinner. We are incredibly grateful to our donors who have helped us raise over $7 million for our tuition assistance program. Your efforts have helped thousands of deserving students receive a Bishop Dunne education. The leadership and generosity of our valued long-time supporters, alumni, faculty and staff make Bishop Dunne an amazing place to work. While we will no longer be hosting the Bishop Dunne 100 Dinner, this fall we kick off the “Dunne Together” campaign which will raise funds for immediate and long-term needs for our school. All gifts will support tuition assistance, technology needs and student programs like College Ready Academy (CRA) and the Collegiate Institute. To support these programs, the Dunne Together goal is to raise $1.2 million. We continue to raise tuition assistance for need-based students as well as our merit-based scholars. These programs provide funding to ensure our student body is well-rounded, academically prepared, mentally competitive and ready to enter college with the confidence gained through a Bishop Dunne education. Supporting our students and faculty with technology needs is an immediate priority. We were the first Catholic school in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to institute online learning into our curriculum. Our forward-thinking ensured teachers and staff were prepared to immediately and efficiently transition to distance-learning, when shelter-at-home orders were issued during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our community programs at Bishop Dunne help our students achieve their education goals. The Collegiate
Institute (see article, next page) works in conjunction with the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) for qualified students to obtain dual degrees. The College Ready Academy, for first generation college students at Bishop Dunne, is modeled after the University Leadership Network at the University of Texas at Austin. CRA is a two-year program designed to improve the college graduation rate for students who will be first generation college students.
What’s next?
Bishop Dunne’s mission is to be one of the best schools in Dallas. Stay tuned for new and innovative ideas we will be implementing in the 2020-21 school year. We are committed to supporting our community and we are immensely grateful for the support from all our donors, faculty/staff and alumni.
