Cale Meeks was born and raised in Wasaga Beach and comes from a family with deep roots in the area and many family members still living here. Cale's Grandfather built race cars in his Wasaga Beach shop that raced at Wasaga Speedway and other tracks around Ontario. Cale is a former Kart Racing Champion that made his way to the top of the Kart Racing World over 10 years ago. He won many championships and at one point was a Factory Driver for Birel Karts of Italy and raced out of 3S Go Karts in Sutton. After Cale married and started working full time to support his family, he said good bye to racing and moved away from his home town of Wasaga Beach. Fast forward to several weeks ago, when a call came into the Beach BOOSTER office requesting information on racing in the upcoming Inaugural Wasaga Grand Prix. Little did we know at the time, that the person requesting the information was Cale's wife calling on behalf of her husband. When our Race Director heard the name Meeks... the excitement was obvious. Ten years ago the name Cale Meeks was known to all in the Karting Community with his reputation as a great racer and him making the cover of countless Karting publications. Wasaga Grand Prix Race Director John Bors, owner of Near North Kartways wanted Cale to participate in the Wasaga Grand Prix! Although Cale did not still own a kart suitable to race... John was determined to make something happen. John invited Cale to his Near North Kartways in Gamebridge Ontario to have some fun on the track. John and others at the track were excited to see Cale perform on the track in a kart lent to him by one of John's friends and customer of Near North Kartways. Although it was the first time in years for Cale to be in a kart... it was obvious to all that this racing legend from Wasaga Beach still has what it takes to win races! Wasaga Beach welcomed Cale's return to the race track and we hope he continues with his passion to keep racing! The kids are beyond happy; summer is here! As you look around you see backpacks on the floor with the contents of their locker or desk strewn everywhere. Your office/desk/refrigerator is already bursting with their 'art work' and crafts. The last thing you probably feel like doing is spending time going through that myriad of stuff...Just remember though, you have 12+ years of this! How do you get a handle on all of their 'special papers'? Don't let clutter overtake you. It's easier to bite the bullet and get it done now and be able to enjoy the summer without having to look at the clutter for the duration. One box per child: There are a number of ways to go about this, but here's our favourite. Get a sturdy plastic file box and insert hanging files, one per grade. Together with your child, choose a set number of masterpieces to keep. Let your child determine what the most meaningful pieces to keep are. No less than five, no more than ten is generally a perfect number. FYI: 'food art' ~ think macaroni pictures ~ does not store well.... Put all of their awards and report cards into the hanging files as well. Do this at the end of every school year so that you are not overwhelmed when they are finally going away to college and you decide it's 'finally' time to clear out their stuff. Check for broken items: Take a look at their backpack and see if it is still in good condition for next year. If it is, clean it out and store it. If it's not, throw it out. Go through all of their school supplies and get rid of anything that is broken. Sort all of the 'good' supplies into a box for next year, and make a list of what you have left over that can be reused so that you don't end up re-buying. Organize the school paper influx: Take advantage of the slower inflow of new paper and get on top of what's accumulated over the past school year. Clean out your reference files and discard papers that pertain to the past school year's teachers, schedules and assignments. Discard paperwork from sports teams and seasons that have come and gone. Relax! Now you can relax and enjoy your summer....that is until it's time to 'get organized' for the next school year! But, that's another article....
