A II Bienal ficou conhecida como a Bienal da Guemica, a célebre pintura de Pablo Picasso que hoje, por razões de segurança e conservação, não pode mais deixar o Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, em Madri. Mas, sublinhe-se, ela, à frente das outras 74 obras da sala especial dedicada ao artista espanhol, era a ponta de um enonne iceberg. Com a sala de Picasso vinham, entre outras também especiais, a do suíço Paul Klee, do holandês Piet Mondrian, dos franceses Henri Laurens e Germaine Richier, do suíço Ferdinand Hodler, do norte-americano Alexander Calder, do norueguês Edvard Munch, do belga James Ensor e do austríaco Oskar Kokoschka. A representação francesa, além de um amplo conjunto de artistas que naquela altura trafegavam entre a abstração geométrica e o tachismo, trazia como sala especial sobre o cubismo dotada de 57 obras de autoria de seus principais protagonistas. Começava por seus fundadores, os inigualáveis parceiros Georges Braque e Pablo Picasso, e prosseguia por todos os vários mestres do movimento, como Juan Gris, André Lhote, Albert Gleizes, Fernand Léger, Sonia e Robert Delaunay, dando-se ao luxo de trazer uma pintura do revolucionário Marcel Duchamp e uma excepcional escultura de Constantin Brancusi, além de peças de Jacques Lipchitz e Ossip Zadkine.
