Notes from Needham Enhancing the hospital's reach into the community

New MRI Unit

If you are already a MySite user, you must still sign up for the new, upgraded MySite to access your most up-to-date hospital health records from after October 1. Your records prior to October 1 will be archived and available at the previous portal at https://mysite.bidneedham.org.

In the fall, the Radiology department at BID–Needham will begin utilizing a new MRI scanner. This state-of-theart scanner allows for faster scan times and excellent imaging capability. The system has a larger opening and a shorter system design for a more pleasant and comfortable patient experience. “For claustrophobic patients, this MRI system provides them with more room so they feel less 'closed-in,“ says Bill Hallett, RTR, CT, director of Radiology. "In many cases, they can keep their heads outside of the system to look at our lighted ceiling mural which studies have shown helps to relax patients. We try to make this the best experience possible for our patients, especially in a stressful time.” Adding this second MRI system will give the Radiology department at BID–Needham greater flexibility and availability for patient scheduling. The team is part of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Department of Radiology and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians who specialize in neuroradiology, musculoskeletal and body imaging, using the same protocols as BIDMC to interpret imaging studies. To make an appointment, call 781-453-3044.
