WORD SEARCH

A Calming Collection of Brain-Boosting Puzzles to Help You Relax & Unwind

To those seeking a moment of calm, enjoy these brain-boosting, relaxing puzzles!

Puzzle solutions on page 140.

WELCOME

This collection of word searches has been carefully crafted to be fun, mentally stimulating, and meditative. You can make a great addition to your self-care ritual and unwind in style with the 120 delightful puzzles included. But this book is more than just a simple way to pass the time. With its eye-catching design, legible print, and fun bonus content, it provides the relaxed and casual vibe of flipping through a favorite magazine.

The word searches in this book feature a wide variety of themes, including gardening, cooking, pop culture, hobbies, and more. You’ll love getting into the flow of scanning lines of letters to seek out each elusive word—and you’re certain to learn some new vocab or be inspired to look something interesting up when you’ve completed each puzzle!

Each puzzle comes with a corresponding fun fact or tip to enhance the experience. Plus, there are a few mini articles to read while taking a break between puzzles, featuring friendly advice, DIYs, and a focus on self-care. And, of course, a solution for every puzzle is provided so you’re never frustrated.

Puzzling for Self-Care

This book is designed to become a mindful, personal puzzling moment in your daily life. Taking care of yourself and making sure you feel good should be your top priority when completing these puzzles. To help you along, here are some tips for how to turn puzzling from a simple activity into a true part of your self-care mindset.

Make space.

Seek out a cozy space for puzzling. Find a comfy chair or sofa that gives you back support but isn’t too stiff. It might be nice to fetch a soft blanket or pillow too! If possible, look for a spot that has minimal clutter so that you can decompress without stressing about the area around you. It can be difficult to unwind when your space feels unruly. This is your “me time,” so the chores can wait! You can also puzzle away from home—just choose a place without too much noise or distraction, like a quiet coffee shop or a secluded park bench.

Get

comfy.

Pull out a pair of fuzzy socks and your most comfortable duds for ultimate relaxation. When your body feels restricted by tight or uncomfortable fabrics, it can be hard to focus on winding down. Every part of your experience matters, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. If you have a favorite pen, pencil, or marker that brings you joy, use it!

Feed your body.

Grab a tasty beverage to sip on while you’re going through the book. Coffee, tea, soda, or a cocktail—it’s totally up to you! And enjoy a snack too if you’re hungry. Make sure you set yourself up with a coaster, napkin, straw, or any other little accessories you might need so that once you start puzzling, you won’t have to interrupt yourself.

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.”
—ANNE LAMOTT

Breathe.

Now that you’ve found a place to sit and you’re feeling prepared, you’re almost ready to dive into the book. Before doing so, take a few deep breaths. Notice how your mind and body feel as you do this. If you’re stressed out, keep taking deep breaths until you feel your heart rate calm.

Pick your puzzle.

Flip through the whole book before you get busy on one of the puzzles. Take a mental note of which ones are especially intriguing to you, which ones look easy, and which ones look more advanced. If you’re feeling burnt out after a long day or week, try choosing a puzzle on the simpler side to ease you into the process. If it’s been a great day and you’re looking for a more mentally stimulating experience, try a more challenging puzzle!

Don’t take it too seriously. These puzzles are meant to ease your mind while gently exercising it. They aren’t meant to get you frustrated by some seemingly impossible-to-find word! If you do find yourself getting stumped, simply put the puzzle aside and tackle a new one, or check an answer in the back—there’s no shame in that!

Take your time.

It’s better to complete just a few puzzles a day, or even one single puzzle, instead of flying through them one after the other. Even one puzzle a day can improve your overall mood and set the tone for your day, or ease you into the rest of your evening activities. Really take your time and soak in the happy, welcoming vibes of each page. Doodle in the margins if you feel inspired! Make it a moment that is meaningful to you.

LET’S PUZZLE

You’ll find 120 unique word search puzzles, fun facts and tips, and six articles in this section of the book. Feel free to complete the puzzles in any order you like! Choose the puzzle that suits your mood.

Create Your Own Amazing At-Home Studio

Whether you consider yourself a creative person or not, you can open up a whole new world by cultivating a creative space in your home.

We all have creativity in us—you just have to let yours flourish! Having a dedicated space for creativity gives you something solid to turn to when you’re feeling inspired and removes barriers to getting started. It can even be a shared space that your family uses, and it doesn’t have to be big.

The first thing to consider is where in your home you have the space to make art projects and store supplies. If you have a whole room you can dedicate to this, that’s great! But if you don’t, it’s still totally doable. You can use bins that fit on a nearby shelf or invest in a desk that can store your supplies but doubles as a general work area. A spot in the basement is a great choice for an art studio—it allows you to easily keep any clutter or bulky supplies out of the normal flow of your home. You could also use a spot that you already do work in, such as an office area. Just make sure you keep your artmaking out of your bedroom. You don’t want the room you wind down and sleep in to feel like a place for any kind of work.

Next up is to set yourself up for comfortable work. Make sure you have sufficient lighting so you aren’t squinting and straining; natural light or overhead lighting are the best options. Another important aspect of your studio is comfort. You’ll need a chair that you can sit in for long periods of time that gives your back support. When considering seating, make sure to think about the type of artwork you’ll be doing: is it something handheld that you can lean back in a chair for, do you need an easel, or will you be leaning over a desk or table?

Organization is another key to setting up a new studio space. Repurposing cans or jars for paintbrushes, pens, markers, and other essential supplies for your craft of choice is a great starting point. You can even make colorful labels out of washi tape to make your space both functional and cute! Keep different types of supplies in separate bins or drawers for easy access and cleanup. All right, that’s enough chitchat—go get started on the studio space of your dreams!

Crystals 101

Interested in the recent buzz around crystals, but not sure where to start? It’s time to find one that’s right for you!

The basic purpose of crystals is to help you connect with yourself more deeply. This can include becoming more intuitive, trusting your gut, uncovering your true feelings, and more. Whether you believe they possess their own power or not, crystals can be a tool for approaching yourself with honesty and kindness. They’ll be a great addition to any of your self-care practices! There are plenty of ways to use crystals, and it can be as simple as wearing one in a necklace or displaying them in your living space.

Rose quartz, clear quartz, amethyst, and tiger’s eye are some of the most popular and beginner-friendly crystals. Rose quartz is a classic stone for navigating love. Clear quartz is probably the most popular crystal out there, known for its ability to help you find clarity and balance. Amethyst is lauded as a spiritual and physical healer as well as a stress reliever. And tiger’s eye is super useful for boosting confidence and easing anxiety. You can’t really go wrong with crystals like these! If you’re looking for something more special or specific, though, go for it! There are lots of books and online guides that can tell you all about each of the

hundreds of crystals out there and what they’re best for.

Another great place to start is a local shop that sells crystals and focuses on wellness. Think of places that sell items like natural soaps, incense, or candles, and you’re likely to find crystals there too. Small businesses like these often prioritize customer service and can provide you with personalized advice and information to get you started.

Once you begin collecting crystals, there are a few things you should know. It’s best to store your crystals apart from each other, not touching, so as not to muddle their unique energies. Crystals also need to be cleansed once in a while— after busily soaking up your aura, they need to be “reset” so they can work to their full potential. The easiest way to do this is to leave them by a sunny window or on a table outside. The key is to make sure they get some sunlight for a few hours.

Now that you know the basics and where to start, enjoy the beginning of your crystal journey!

Choosing Plants for a Happy Home

Interested in adding some color to your space and breathing fresher air in your home? Houseplants might be for you!

There are lots of benefits of having houseplants. They filter the air, they can make your home feel cozier, they add color and visual interest to a space, and so much more. Just having one or two plants in your home has been shown to improve overall mood, increase focus and productivity, and reduce anxiety. We’re humans, which means we’re animals— we’re meant to be surrounded by other living things! Adding some greenery to your space can help you easily connect with nature without having to always carve out time for hikes and nature walks.

Even just the act of taking care of something can improve your wellbeing and give you renewed purpose in your day-to-day. Watering your plants, occasionally repotting them, and making sure their leaves don’t collect dust are all things you can do to keep them healthy. And this isn’t just good for your plants, it’s good for you! Taking care of something else can make us more motivated to take care of ourselves. If you don’t fancy yourself a plant person, consider adopting a plant that has a clear use. Small herbs like basil, thyme,

oregano, parsley, and mint are all easy to grow indoors and don’t take up much space. You’ll always have fresh herbs on hand and you’ll save money, all while reaping the same benefits you would if you had purely decorative houseplants.

There are thousands of different houseplants you can buy and grow. All those choices might sound overwhelming, but the best place to start is at a local plant shop, where the experts on staff can give you personalized advice, you can ask any questions you have, and you can make sure you go home with the right materials. Try to avoid bigger stores that aren’t exclusively focused on plants—it can be harder to find healthy plants there, as well as sound advice about them.

For your first plant, it’s a great idea to stick with something fairly low maintenance. Snake plants, spider plants, peace lilies, and philodendrons are all easy plants to take care of. They’re rather forgiving when it comes to watering, lighting conditions, and temperature. So go find your dream plant and get growing!

Tips for a Perfect Party

Parties can quickly become overwhelming for the hostess and end up feeling like more work than fun, and nobody wants that!

Whether you’re an expert party hostess or you’re just getting started, you can always make your next party even better than the last. Here are a few tips for taking your parties to the next level.

Don’t be afraid to get your friends involved! It can feel intimidating, and even taboo, to ask your guests for help, but if you’re inviting the right kind of friends, they’re likely to want to help. It can add to the experience and make your guests feel more connected to the occasion. A good way to go about it is simply asking a few of your closest friends to come an hour or two early and assigning them each a task or something to bring. This can really ease the overall workload and kick off the collaborative mood of the night.

Remember that your house doesn’t have to be perfect. Sure, it’s definitely a good idea to give each room a thorough cleaning, but there’s no use in obsessing over every little thing being spotless and perfectly in place. People just enjoy being invited over and spending time in good company! And it’s pretty unusual for

someone to notice a fingerprint on a glass or a crooked picture frame. Don’t sweat the small stuff!

It’s a good idea to keep some party activities in your back pocket, but don’t force them. Your guests may simply be excited to catch up with each other (and you!) and enjoy chatting the whole time without specific games or activities to focus on. Try to read the mood of the party before gathering everyone together for a particular activity.

We all know to make sure there’s plenty of food and drinks, but also make sure there are enough options for anyone with different dietary needs. This isn’t to say you should buy out half the grocery store, but try to pick out a few “snacky” dishes that fit various diets. For example, something with meat, a few vegetarian options, and something gluten-free. Don’t overthink it—there are lots of well-loved foods that don’t have to be modified to fit specific needs.

With all this in mind, go get party planning and have a blast at your next big bash!

DIY Ideas for an At-Home Spa Day

There are so many different DIY spa treatments that you can do at home—the possibilities are endless!

And the best part is that you can easily use what you already have around the house, allowing you to save money and minimize your to-do list. Here are some ideas to inspire your next at-home custom spa experience!

You probably already have lots of ingredients for scrubs, face masks, and hair treatments on hand. To make a scrub, all you need is an abrasive natural ingredient such as sugar, sea salt, or dried coffee grounds, and an oil—coconut, almond, olive, etc. You can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the mix too to incorporate a lovely scent and boost the skin benefits! For face masks, you can use ingredients like honey, avocado, oatmeal, banana, turmeric, aloe, and cucumber. For hair masks, you can use a lot of the same ingredients as you do in face masks. Apple cider vinegar, eggs, and lemon juice are also great additions for your hair (as long as it’s not dyed!). Try to use no more than two or three ingredients in a single mix so as to not overwhelm your skin or hair.

One of the most classic spa day treats

is, of course, a hot bath, but you can upgrade the experience in so many ways! If you happen to have a bathtub tray, definitely use it. If you don’t, that’s okay! Think outside the box—you can make any tray work, even if you set it down on the floor or the counter next to the tub. You could also pull up a small stool or a low chair to put things on. Light candles, grab a book or magazine, play some music, and make yourself a special drink to sip on while you soak (and while you let your hair or face mask do its good work!).

Now let’s talk about bath products. A lot of traditional mass-produced bubble baths and soaps can be surprisingly harsh on your skin. To make sure you feel your best, lean toward more-natural bath products. Teas, herb blends, Epsom salts, essential oils, apple cider vinegar, and bentonite clay are all great bath options that will do wonders for your body and mind.

You deserve a break, so plan your next spa day soon! Prep your mask and scrub, draw that bath, and treat yourself.

Tips for a Great Garden

Thinking about starting a garden? You’re in the right place!

Growing some of your own food can really connect you to the earth and get you more involved in the whole process of cooking. Knowing that you grew the ingredients you’re cooking with can be really motivating and give you a renewed sense of pride in the dishes you make.

First, you’ll have to consider where you have space for a garden. It doesn’t have to be huge, but make sure there’s enough room for plants not to be crowded. If you don’t have a lot of space or an ideal space, you could opt for a container garden bed instead. There are wooden, metal, and plastic options in all different sizes, so choose what looks good and what works for you. You should also make sure that whichever spot you choose gets sufficient sunlight and not too much wind.

With your first garden, you should start small—anywhere from 4' x 4' to 8' x 8' is probably big enough. Pick two to four of your favorite vegetables to buy seeds for, and, at least for your first season, stop yourself there. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself—you can always expand your garden next year! In your first year, you are likely going to have

a couple of failures and perhaps lose a plant or two, so starting with fewer will allow you to really focus on those plants’ specific needs and provide a learning opportunity for you before you start juggling a lot of different plants.

Depending on what and how much you end up growing, sometimes it can be hard to successfully meal-plan and use up everything in your garden. Here are some ideas to make sure nothing goes to waste! As you’re cooking, save all the veggie scraps you won’t use in the freezer and make a broth once the container is full. If you can, start composting and eventually add the compost to the soil in your garden. You could also consider preserving and canning—that way, you can use up your veggies at your leisure and have some saved for the colder months. Of course, it’s always a great idea to share the abundance of your garden with your friends, family, and neighbors, so don’t hesitate to give away what you’ve grown!

Now that you have some ideas about where to begin, it’s time to get started on your beautiful vegetable garden!
