Dear friends, The words “home” and “family” gained new importance to Bethesda Project in the last 15 months. In the face of a global pandemic and shelter-in-place orders, our guests, residents, staff, donors, and volunteers came together to keep each other safe. Residents took on additional cleaning tasks within and around their residences. Supporters and partners donated PPE, cleaning supplies, and meals. Everyone got creative with socially distanced and virtual alternatives to traditional group activities, keeping the bonds of our community strong in an especially isolating time. We moved forward as a community, committed to weathering the storm together. And despite the unique challenges of this past year, we continued to grow: • Opened 2 new locations • Welcomed 320 new residents into entry-level housing • Sheltered 375 overnight guests in emergency housing • Saw 95% of our residents maintain their housing stability Your support over the last year made this possible, and tonight, you can continue to help serve those that need our support the most with your bids on our silent auction, in our 50/50 raffle, or making a donation to our Giving Garden. Thank you for your loyal support, and for remembering the most vulnerable during this crucial time. Together we remain a caring family that can continue to thrive. With gratitude,

Tina Pagotto, CEO

Who We Are In the last 42 years, Bethesda Project grew from a single apartment to 16 housing locations across Philadelphia, including emergency shelter, entry-level programs, long-term supported housing, and independent housing. Our residents’ needs are not one-size-fits-all, and so we offer a continuum of care, including individualized care plans, long-term case management, referrals to outside providers, connection to legal aid, and walk-up meal service to over 1400 individuals experiencing homelessness every year. We foster community within our residences with democratic house meetings, special holiday meals, and frequent group activities. We are driven by our core values of compassion, service, and the inherent worth and dignity of all people. Our mission is to find and care for the abandoned poor and to be family with those who have none.

St. Mary’s [a location in the Church Shelter Program at Bethesda Project] is a place where you can go and the staff care about you; they ask how you’re doing, they make a genuine effort to help you get out of this situation. I had never seenthat in a shelter before: staff actually caring about us... I’m rebuilding myself from the ground up, but stronger this time – and, you know, I am stronger. I used to be afraid, but I don’t think that way anymore. I’m ready. I’m strong. My spirit is strong. - Charlie, Guest, Bethesda Project

Dear Bethesda Project family, As the pandemic continues, the Board of Directors could not be prouder of the work that Bethesda Project does for those experiencing homelessness in our area. Our staff, volunteers, donors, guests, and residents rose to the challenges of the last year and supported each other as we continued to provide services and shelter during this critical period of time. The power of community brought us together, while compassion for our fellow humans keep us motivated to eliminating homelessness so that every human has a home and family. Each day, we as an organization choose compassion in our services, and we are glad you have joined us in this cause. Please consider making a gift to our Giving Garden, bidding on a silent auction item, or purchasing a 50/50 raffle ticket. Just $100 provides support for one person for one week in our shelters and residences. Any gift you make assists someone in need.

Thank you for being a part of our family.

Best,

Susan M. Glessner-Stickley Bethesda Project Board President
