This year, in this month we look to be thankful for all our blessings, I am particularly thankful for several things, but certainly for my family and friends all remaining healthy during this year of world pandemic, which has made this year so different.

One friend I am thankful for having continued good health is Mr. Vickers, who will be 105 years old on Veterans Day, Wednesday November 11th. He is likely Delaware County’s oldest World War II veteran. In this issue, you’ll read about Mr. Vickers on page 16 and learn how you can send Mr. Vickers a birthday card for his 105th birthday and how to join the drive-by parade to honor him: 1:30pm Weds Nov 11th!

Another friend for whom I am also particularly grateful is the person responsible for the eye candy that is this free magazine, which comes into your home each month. Dear Residents, November is a great month to step back and count our blessings.

lectric vehicles are here to stay. There are now more varieties, styles and manufacturers than ever before, including small compact cars to walk-in vans to tractor trailer-size vehicles.

The advances in lithium batteries and electric motors combined with the cost of gasoline have all contributed to the economic viability of manufacturing, purchasing, maintaining and driving these vehicles. Not to mention that they can be fun to drive with amenities such as large touch screens, advanced navigation and even autonomous driving.

On a full charge and depending on road conditions, these vehicles can drive for hundreds of miles before needing to be recharged. Driving the speed limit, using accessories like heat

or air conditioning, number of passengers, etc., can all affect the driving mileage between charging stops (filling ups).

Charging up can be accessed in many public locations, as mandated by the Federal government. Such places can be found along all major interstates, in gasoline stations, hotels and even in restaurant parking lots.

One of the most popular locations for the average driver to charge the vehicle is at their home. There are several considerations that require investigation and inspection before charging can take place. The electrical service panel must have adequate space for additional power circuits to be installed. The size of the electrical service must be enough to accommodate the additional load of the vehicle being charged. The location of the electrical panel in relation to the desired location of the charging location is also an issue to consider. Charging equipment can be installed inside the garage or outside in weatherproof enclosures.

There are a few methods used to charge electric vehicles. One is a charging unit purchased at the dealer* specific to the vehicle being charged. Another method is to install a power receptacle or outlet. Most vehicles come with cords of sufficient length and plugs to adapt to any of the charging methods.

The November Sproul Lanes Student of the Month is Sacred Heart Academy Bryn Mawr senior Erin Corcoran! Erin received a Certificate of Achievement, and looks forward to enjoying her award: a “Pizza Bowl” party courtesy of Sproul Lanes, our Sponsor of this program.

Erin, “a model of service, leadership, and friendship,” joined her school’s Community Service Corps (CSC) in her freshman year, to serve others, to lead and to motivate others to serve by example.

After the pandemic ended their CSC’s outreach to help feed the homeless in Kensington, Erin decided to continue that service project on her own.

As Co-Leader of her school’s Social Justice Book Club, Erin makes the most of the club’s meetings and activities, to help herself and all club members become educated about the world’s many problems, and be ready to help solve some of those problems in the future.

This year, Erin is serving as Editor of her school’s monthly newspaper, The Beat, for which she has written all types of articles for 4 years.

She is also a Senior Mathlete, and she helped co-found her school’s Reading Olympics team last year. Both of those activities are opportunities for Erin to serve on teams that compete against other schools.

Erin loves volleyball and looks forward to her 4th year on SHA’s Varsity Volleyball Team. Last year, she served as the team’s Co-Captain, and this year, she’ll be Captain. Her skill earned her being named last year to the All-DELCO and All-Pennsylvania Volleyball Teams. She loves the great friendships and opportunities to mentor new players to be successful on and off the court.

Erin appreciates that she was “raised to look out for others,” and is considering a career in Nursing as a way to combine her love of science with her love of helping and interacting with people.

M

eet the Tsolmon Family, neighbors who didn’t know each other while they both grew up in Mongolia, but whose lives took the many twists and turns they needed to find each other, fall in love, and start a family.

They now love living in and helping make Broomall such a great diverse community.

When Munkhzaya (“Zaya”) Lkhagvadorj was young, she lived with her parents and sisters in Erdenet, Mongolia. Life was “peaceful and quiet,” recalls Zaya, “and our education system was quite different from here in the United States: There were no buses, and my parents didn’t own a car, so we walked to school.” Her family was one of the only families in town to eventually buy a car, so when they got it, all of Zaya’s classmates came to see it. Zaya was quite self-motivated: She worked in her parent's transportation business and also at a local resort hotel. A talented musician, Zaya attended music school during middle and high school, and played the Shanz (a Mongolian string instrument) and the piano.

When Zaya was in 6th grade, she started dreaming about being a journalist. She pursued that dream by earning a B.A. in Journalism at the Mongolian National University of Media.

After college, she began working at the National Post newspaper, as a Manager and Columnist. She later worked as a Content Coordinator and TV investigative journalist at the Eagle Broasting Network in Mongolia. To pursue a Master’s degree, she moved to Arlington, VA, in 2014, where she earned an M.A. in Project Management in 2018 from Strayer University.

When Tsolmon Goulden was a child, he lived in Mongolia’s capital, Ulaanbaatar, until he was 13. His mother had remarried, and his stepfather, an American who worked for the

Academy of Natural Sciences, brought Tsolmon and his mother and his sister to the Philadelphia area in 2000. Tsolmon attended Swarthmore Rutledge Middle School, and he graduated from Strath Haven High School in 2005. Although he enjoyed playing sports like football and wrestling, he was unable to join those teams because his primary focus was learning English.

After high school, Tsolmon took some college classes, but ultimately realized he had lost interest in school and wanted a break. With his mom’s permission, he returned to Mongolia, to live as a nomad (rancher and herder) in the eastern plains of Mongolia where his father's family was from. “As the American saying goes, ‘You can take the boy out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the boy’,” Tsolmon explained. He lived in a ger (a circular tent) and had no electricity or plumbing. “I had learned how to ride a horse when I was six years old,” he said, “so being able to go back and saddle up and ride into the vast open landscape felt like a relief. The feeling of rounding up over 300 horses and hearing the sound of their hoofs hitting the ground is amazing!”

Some of Tsolmon’s younger relatives would come to the countryside, to help out with the horses during their summer school vacations. Tsolmon also got the opportunity to go into Ulaanbaatar, to work as an English-speaking tour guide for

people visiting Mongolia’s capital city. In 2006, he received a call from Boeing, the world's largest aerospace company, offering him a job back in the U.S. “When a company like Boeing called and offered me a job, I knew the right thing to do was get on a plane and head back to Pennsylvania!” Tsolmon explained. October marked 14 years that Tsolmon has worked at Boeing, where he finds his work as a Composite Fabricator satisfying and the company fun to work for. “I love being part of a team that builds CH-47 Chinook helicopters for the US and foreign military,” he said.

In 2017, Tsolmon and Zaya met over social media. “My mom was very concerned about my relationship status,” joked Tsolmon. When his mom’s friend met Zaya’s college professor through Facebook’s Mongolian community, they started chatting about Tsolmon and Zaya, and thinking they might set them up for a date. After the moms shared with Tsolmon and Zaya each other’s Facebook account, Tsolmon reached out to Zaya. “When Tsolmon saw my Facebook profile, he knew I would someday be his wife!” Zaya said.

At that time, Zaya was living in Arlington, VA, so she and Tsolmon met halfway, in Maryland, for a first date hike. “I knew Tsolmon was a gentleman when he let me wear his extra clothes, so I could stay warm. I was really attracted to how kind and thoughtful he was,” Zaya recalled fondly. After that, Tsolmon spent most weekends driving to Virginia before Zaya eventually moved to Pennsylvania. In 2018, they were married

at the Media courthouse, and had a small reception at Teca in Newtown Square. “We don’t have a lot of family here in the U.S., so we hope to have another ceremony in Mongolia someday, so all of our family members can celebrate with us.”

Tsolmon and Zaya have a 2-year-old son, Khangai Tsolmon.

(It’s a Mongolian tradition for a child to take his father’s first name as his last name.) Another baby boy is due this month, and Khangai is excitedly preparing to be a big brother! He’s learning to speak English and Mongolian, and he’s “a curious continued on page 10

Another Mongolian custom is a ceremony for a child’s first haircut, but Tsolmon and Zaya have postponed that ceremony because of the pandemic. “Although we cannot gather for the ceremony yet, we think he looks like a stylish little guy with his long hair,” said Zaya.

Eventually, Zaya would love to get back into marketing or even journalism. In the meantime, she’s focusing on raising Khangai and getting ready for Baby #2. When the pandemic hit, she decided to combine her sewing and marketing skills, to make and sell face masks for adults and children on Etsy (ZayasChicHouse.Etsy.com) and Facebook (“Made in Love by Zaya”). “For my face mask business, I use the name Emma Zaya because my Mongolian name Munkhzaya is difficult to pronounce,” Zaya explained. Tsolmon’s aunt and uncle have been helping with sewing the masks. “I was taught to sew at a young age,” said Zaya, “so not only am I creating something that helps protect people from the virus, I’m using a skill that was passed down to me from my parents and grandparents.”

The children’s masks are especially popular and have received rave reviews.

In 2019, Zaya and Tsolmon moved to their house in Broomall.

“The first time we saw this house, we knew it was meant for us,” said Tsolmon. “It has a large yard and it’s on a peaceful quiet cul-de-sac with friendly neighbors.” Zaya loves the ranchstyle home. “With no stairs, it’s really safe for young children, and the size is perfect because it’s not too big,” she said. “The bigger the house, the more stuff. And I like to live simply.” What they love about Broomall is being part of a diverse community.

“And we really appreciate our community for supporting local businesses like ours!” added Zaya.

Although they were unable to travel to Mongolia this summer due to the pandemic, they hope to go next summer so their relatives there can all meet and get to know each other, especially their son Khangai and his soon-to-be baby brother. And someday, Tsolmon and Zaya would love to develop a travel company to Mongolia. “I would love travelers to discover Mongolia, from its fashionable urban cities to its nomadic countryside lifestyle,” said Zaya. “Traveling and experiencing other cultures can open your eyes to many new possibilities!”

Why a Sewer Inspection Is Important

S

ewer inspections can save your home and your pockets. Just because the sewer is “out of sight, out of mind,” doesn’t mean it should be neglected. Many homeowners overlook their sewer lateral because they don’t know much about it and don’t know how to tell if there are problems. Neglecting it can negatively affect your pockets and your property.

Home inspectors sometimes overlook a sewer lateral because it’s underground. Worse, the majority of inspectors don’t have the correct, specialized equipment to do a proper sewer inspection. Professional certified plumbers use specialized waterproof video camera snakes that are pushed through sewer lateral piping, to conduct several visual inspections.

Certified plumbers use new technology: A proper sewer inspection is not as difficult as it used to be. There’s no longer a need to dig up your yard to find the problems. Certified plumbers can repair or replace the sewer lateral without damaging your beautiful landscaping.

Offset Pipes: An offset is where two sections of pipe meet but do not line up correctly.

Tree Roots: Roots can not only offset a pipe but can also crush a pipe. Root intrusion is more common in older piping.

Buildup of Grease: Garbage disposals can cause a grease buildup. Enough grease and other substances will cause blockages.

Cracking: Leaks outside of the pipe can lead to settlement of your sewer line and should be repaired to avoid damage.

Pipe Collapse: Although a pipe collapse is uncommon, it can happen due to the issues above. In almost every case, your line will need to be replaced.

Sewer inspections show problems unknown to you without a proper camera sewer inspection. These inspections take the guesswork out of identifying problems. With a proper inspection, plumbers will discover potential problems before they cause severe damage.

Your sewer lateral is an important part of your home. Do your “homework” before moving forward. A proper sewer lateral inspection should be done by a certified sewer inspection contractor. They’ll have the proper and specialized equipment to inspect your sewer lateral. M

ichelle McFadden opened up First Class Auto Tags and Service seven years ago and considers it her “happy place.” After almost 40 years of experience in the auto tag business, she continues to help people with auto tag needs and more. “I started working in this business when I was 18 years old,” she said. “I never thought I’d be in it this long, but I love it. I love helping people and taking some of the stress away from dealing with PennDOT.” Michelle grew up in Upper Darby and graduated from Upper Darby High School. After high school, she found a job working at a local Fotomat. While she was working there a family friend came in to develop pictures and offered her a job at Best Auto Tags in Darby, PA. After taking him up on the offer, she spent three decades there, learning the auto tag business, helping customers, and understanding all of PennDOT’s rules and regulations.

In 2013, she felt it was time for a change, so she decided to open up her own business on West Chester Pike in Broomall.

“I was 54 years old when I left Best Auto Tags,” said Michelle.

“I knew it would be hard to find another job at that age and it opened my eyes that I could actually start my own business.

Even though it can be stressful at times, I know in the long run it was a good decision.”

Navigating PennDOT rules and regulations can be a challenge. Not only does Michelle understand their very specific rules, forms, and processes, but she loves a challenge. “I really want to take the burden off of the customer,” said Michelle.”

By having the years of experience dealing with PennDOT, I’m often able to answer questions in a matter of minutes.”

When First Class Auto Tags and Service first opened, they offered all of the core services such as title transfers, license restoration, and notary services. They’ve since grown to offer

Michelle’s daughter, Emily Walmsley, works alongside her mother, helping to run the business. “The best part of going to work is getting to work with my daughter every day,” said Michelle. “Emily is a hard worker and I respect her opinion on things. When we updated our website recently, Emily’s input was instrumental in bringing a lot more traffic to our site.”

made the process go smoothly. We often work with people who are relocating and it’s an exciting time in their lives!” Recently, a customer made a trip back into the store, to thank Michelle for her help. “We collect license plates here and we had a customer come back just to give us a plate he found for our collection,” she added.

When the pandemic hit in March, First Class Auto Tags and Service was forced to close for a few months. But since they reopened on June 8, they’ve been busier than ever. “We were so busy when we reopened that we ran out of tags in 2 days,” Michelle explained. “Even though there has been less downtime, I’m grateful that we’ve been able to make up for lost time.”

Michelle has lived in Broomall since 1998, making it easy for her to run over to the office even on her day off. When she’s not working, she loves spending time with her children (she also has two sons) and grandchildren, and she also enjoys traveling.

Emily recently ran the business while Michelle took a muchneeded vacation to Colorado, and Michelle hopes to see Emily take over the business someday.

his Veterans Day (Wednesday November 11), Newtown Square resident H. Eugene (“Gene”) Vickers will celebrate his 105th birthday. He is Marple Newtown’s oldest Veteran, so this is an event our entire community can celebrate!

Mr. Vickers was born on November 11, 1915 (Armistice Day then; Veterans Day now), at his family’s farmhouse in Oakmont, PA. The youngest of seven children, his family moved to Havertown when he was quite young. After graduating from Haverford High School, he attended Wheaton College in Illinois. He also attended Philadelphia School of the Bible (now Cairn University), where he was employed for almost 45 years after World War II.

Last November 11, to celebrate Mr. Vickers’ 104th birthday, the Navy held ceremonies at the U.S. Navy War Memorial and Museum in Washington, DC. They presented him with a plaque honoring his service in World War II. And Newtown Township celebrated Mr. Vickers by passing a Resolution honoring him for his long life, his 65 years of residency in Newtown Township, and his many years of service to his country, his family and his community.

Mr. Vickers greatly misses his dear wife Betty of 66 years since her passing almost 13 years ago. He is blessed with a large extended family that includes 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one more on the way. He says his secret to such a long and happy life is his faith in God and his purpose in

How to Choose the RIGHT CONTRACTOR

inding a good contractor requires more than common sense; you should also be aware of the real risks that come with choosing poorly. Unfortunately, many people do more research when buying a car than they do when choosing a contractor. Choosing the right contractor to build, remodel or paint your home can make the difference between a relatively stress-free project and many sleepless nights. Here are some simple steps you can take to ensure that your contractor is capable enough to get the job done.

There are many horror stories of homeowners who were conned into paying for renovations that either never happened or were completely botched due to gross negligence. Over the past few years, consumer complaints against home construction and renovation contractors have been on the rise. Even if a contractor seems sincere and is offering you a “great deal,” if you can't verify references or you are being asked to pay upfront without first taking care of the legal formalities, watch out!

Probably the most important question you need to ask any contractor is if they have Workers’ Compensation insurance. If they do not and one of their employees injures himself while working on your property, then you are liable and will be sued.

Here are some quick upfront questions to ask a contractor, to get a good sense of their credibility:

• Should a construction error or problem arise, how much liability coverage do you have? (Around $1 million is usually considered sufficient.)

• Can you provide several references and can we see the work you’ve done for them?

• How many people are on your crew and how long have they been with your company? (If there’s no employees, it’s likely to be subcontract work. You should research the reputation of those subcontractors, but remember the contractor could switch them out at any time.)

• Will there be a full-time foreman on the project?

• Is there someone in your office to promptly answer questions we may have?

• Do you have a state license? Local licenses?

• Do you belong to any professional organizations related to your business? (This will speak to their reputation, local credi bility and the level of commitment they have in their business.)

Contractors have a busy season when they are turning away work. The best time for you to get the most economical prices is in the winter months. When getting estimates, remember to compare apples to apples. When an estimate price is too good to be true, it usually is. Most importantly remember this: Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten. M

for Decorating with Mirrors

irrors are a great decorating tool because they reflect light, open up spaces and they just make rooms look better overall. There are many designs today that offer function and add style. Here are five tips on how to decorate with mirrors.

1. Consider the Reflection It’s important to look at what will be across from a mirror after you hang it. Instead of hanging a mirror based on your available wall space, take into consideration what will be reflected in it. Hanging it opposite an important piece of furniture or artwork will make that item stand out by bringing out that object’s pattern, shape and color. Also, hanging a mirror across from a window will increase the amount of light in the room.

2. Placement Matters In addition to placing a mirror across from something visually appealing, always make sure you hang it at the appropriate height. Mirror placement doesn’t have to be at eye level like a piece of art. If it’s too high, the room may feel disconnected.

Lowering the mirror will make the space feel more intimate. Its placement will be based on what you want reflected, so higher or lower than eye level often works better.

3. Size Is Important Large mirrors work well even in small spaces. They create the illusion of depth and space; they can make a small room seem larger. A full-length mirror leaning against the wall is a great decorative element to use in a tiny room. Mirrors are also great for narrow spots such as hallways.

4. Choose a Focal Point Mirrors make great focal points, especially above mantels and dining room buffets. A custom frame that matches the style of the mantle itself can make it more cohesive. Gallery walls covered entirely in mirrors can also create a focal point. Similar to a photo wall, treat the mirrors as one unit when deciding on placement. Because multiple frames can be visually busy, a gallery wall is best in an uncluttered larger space.

5. Style Depending on what type of frame you choose, mirrors can be modern or traditional. An antique mirror will have a totally different effect on a room than a simple wood frame will. You can also use custom-cut mirrors to create modern art on a blank wall. For example, have a glass company cut a series of uniform blocks for you to hang in a unique pattern. Try introducing other shapes to your mirror wall art such as a round mirror, which has a calming, eye-catching shape. They also provide balance if a room is full of other geometric elements.

andyCare is a happy Newtown Square-based ministry that has been bringing tons of comfort, joy and CANDY to our less fortunate neighbors for the past 21 years. Started by Patti and Gabrielle Bruno, a dynamic mother/daughter duo, they successfully developed and coordinated a huge team of volunteers, schools, stores and businesses throughout Delaware County and beyond, all of whom collect Halloween candy to donate to children, men and women who call the streets or a shelter their home.

The Brunos’ Halloween tradition began in 1998, when Gabrielle was a first-grader at St. Anastasia’s School in Newtown Square.

That first year, the Brunos collected 200 pounds of candy at their school. Over the past 21 years, countless children smilingly gave up their treats and stores donated unsold sweets, as CandyCare grew to include over 45 schools and businesses collecting THOUSANDS of pounds of candy! Last year, CandyCare collected a whopping 5,475 POUNDS of candy!

This year, sadly, there will be no candy collection due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So we’re taking this opportunity to give a huge shout-out to St. Luke’s Greek Orthodox Church in Broomall for kindly opening their doors each year as the collection site for all this candy! Pastor Christ Kontos there loves kids and candy and serving the community in this way.

Our community has been blessed by this service opportunity, which easily teaches service through giving to the youth who give up their Halloween candy to help those less fortunate. The Brunos sincerely thank every single person, school and business who made past years’ drives so successful. You all are the heart that has made CandyCare so vibrant and love-based all these years!

Let’s all pray that this time next year, we can resume CandyCare’s mission of sharing our blessings and making life sweeter for those less fortunate. M

During these uncertain times we are very grateful that our family is healthy and that we can contribute to the care and support of others. Karen continues to work the front lines as a nurse at the hospital and is very happy when patients are able to return home to their families. We are also grateful that our children still have the opportunity to continue their education albeit in a different fashion than is customary.

2020 has been a crazy year, but we are grateful for our health, the extra time with family and finding creative ways to stay connected with everyone all these months. Special thank you to all the essential workers that kept us all going!

In this difficult time of 2020, we still find ourselves very grateful for so many things – doctors, nurses, and other front line workers who are helping to save lives; scientists and researchers who are tirelessly looking for answers; technology that allows us to virtually gather and attempt to carry on with our lives while being safe at a distance; jobs that allow for working at home; teachers who are shifting on a dime to continue to educate; and resilient children who have adapted and are rising to take on today’s challenges. We wish everyone in the Marple community a restful and meaningful Thanksgiving holiday!

We are thankful for the extra time we have been able to spend with our family through this pandemic, and movie nights together! We are also extra thankful for a family member who is working very hard on some personal issues and making positive strides for a better life!

We are thankful for our family and health. Visits on the front porch and driveways are our new way to make memories.

Puppy Mills: Not a Pretty Picture

W

e’ve all seen the photos strategically printed on the right side of magazines so that when the pages are flipped they are always visible. Those photos of sick, matted puppies and dogs with sad, pleading eyes are known to all as photos of puppies who need to be rescued from horrible puppy mills with idyllic sounding names like “Pet Resort” or reputable-sounding names like “Such and Such Kennel.”

Many people fall in love and buy the adorable, fluffy, healthy puppies pictured in the puppy mills’ ads. And many people can’t resist the puppy mills’ cute fuzzballs that nap on shredded paper in the pet store windows.

Sadly, puppy mills are places of pain and misery for those fuzzballs and the dogs that parent them. As the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) puts it, “A puppy mill is an inhumane

high-volume dog-breeding facility that churns out puppies for profit, ignoring the needs of the pups and their mothers.” Adult males and females are kept in dirty, rusty cages, often never seeing daylight, deprived of veterinary care, and bred over and over. And when they can no longer be bred, they are tossed out or killed.

Although the puppies may be vaccinated one-time for distemper by the puppy mill owner or by a veterinarian for rabies, that’s simply because it’s good advertising; those puppies are not thoroughly vetted. They’re frequently sick with congenital diseases and loaded with parasites that may not be obvious until the new owner has taken the puppy home and the kids have fallen in love. Those not-so-obvious health conditions eventually surface in the form of physical abnormalities, heart conditions, chronic diarrhea, etc., causing challenges, heartaches and veterinary expenses.

Consider these statistics compiled by the HSUS: • In the US, there are an estimated 10,000 puppy mills.

• 194,000+ dogs are kept solely for breeding in USDA licensed facilities. This license is required for breeders with four or more breeding females and who sell puppies, sight unseen, to pet stores, brokers or online.

• Every year, 2 million puppies are sold that were born in puppy mills.

Once There Was a Railroad Written by Doug Humes

O

nce you could ride a railroad from Philadelphia to Marple and Newtown. The line was laid in 1893, connecting the Pennsylvania Railroad at Fernwood (Yeadon) to Newtown, with 10 stops along the way. The Marple stop was “Foxcroft,” located just east of where Sproul Road crosses Darby Creek. The line then bridged the road, following the creek into Radnor, then made a left turn at The Hunt station (south side of Hunt Road — the Radnor Hunt!).

It continued parallel to Bryn Mawr Avenue, which it crossed on a high bridge near Malin Road, and then through farm properties to its end, a lumber yard along Rte 252 in Newtown Square, across the street from TD Bank. A freight station and a passenger station were erected at the terminus.

By 1895, four daily trains ran each way, with limited weekend service. But clouds were on the horizon: In 1896, the Philadelphia & West Chester Traction Company built a trolley line from 69th Street out West Chester Pike, through Marple, Newtown and on to West Chester. The trolley offered more frequent service, delivering passengers directly to the center of

each community, unlike the railroad. The railroad’s passenger business suffered, with reduced service over the next few years, ceasing altogether in 1908.

The freight line continued to run, taking milk and farm products from the Pennsylvania Hospital farm in Newtown through Marple, past the Swell bubble gum factory in Haverford, Nationally Recognized Accounting & Tax Management Expert HEADQUARTERED IN OUR HOMETOWN!

Remnants remain: concrete bridge abutments along Bryn Mawr Avenue, stone bridge pillars in Ithan Creek near the Blue Route, and the freight station that was moved to Drexel Lodge, where it is the centerpiece of a railroad museum. Haverford has reclaimed part of the right-of-way for a walking trail. And if negotiations go well with a local landowner, Marple hopes to have a section of a walking trail in place connecting to trails in Radnor and Haverford. And so, the labor and capital of the 19th century continue to benefit us today.

But by 1951, the farm had been sold, the train ran just once a day; and in 1963 service from Grassland to Newtown Square ceased.
