THE YEAR 2025 marked a significant chapter in the storied history of Scarlett Law Group. Founded by Randall H. Scarlett – a renowned leader in catastrophic and traumatic brain injury (TBI) trial law – the firm resolved complex, years-long litigation that will enable clients to recover from unimaginable
loss and trauma. Furthermore, under the shared leadership of Partner Randall A. Scarlett (Randall’s son) the firm is resolving high-value trucking litigation cases and proceeding with an action that, if favorably resolved, will set new precedent for event safety.
This courtroom progress, along
with the individual and organizational accolades, further strengthen the firm’s legacy of more than 30 years.
Formed and headquartered in San Francisco, the Scarlett Law Group is a small, but impactful firm comprised of three lawyers and four staff. Often the underdogs in their legal battles,
80 E Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Suite 2J Larkspur, CA 94939
this deep bench of legal and financial talent has uniquely positioned the firm to secure billions in nationwide verdicts and settlements for victims and their families who have suffered catastrophic injury due to professional negligence, trucking accidents, product liability, medical malpractice, construction defect and birth injuries.
“We always prepare for trial, which keeps us in the fight for the long haul,” said Randall H. Scarlett, who has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® annually since 2009 for Personal Injury Litigation–Plaintiffs in San Francisco. Scarlett is one of the nation’s top legal authorities on TBI; he is a former president of the American
Board of Professional Liability Attorneys, which offers board certification and continuing legal education courses in the areas of legal malpractice and medical malpractice for lawyers. He is also a founding member of the Brain Injury Association of California and served as Board emeritus. “That’s what’s required to win major actions, and to secure the resolutions that make a difference in the lives of our clients.”
Randall A. Scarlett is also establishing his influence in courtrooms, as well.
In the past year, he has co-led all catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases with his father, and has resolved several seven-figure brain injury cases.
Under their leadership, Scarlett Law
Group is advancing a landmark case involving injuries sustained outside a California minor-league baseball stadium, challenging the long-standing “Baseball Rule” that limited liability for stadium operators. Randall A. Scarlett recently defeated a summary judgment motion, keeping the case alive and setting the stage for trial. He emphasizes that new case law and MLB safety directives — such as extending protective netting — create a duty for operators to take reasonable, nongame-altering precautions. “These aren’t costly changes,” Randall A. Scarlett noted. “But the human cost of inaction is immeasurable.” The result could reshape stadium liability standards in California.
“When it comes to injury law, I’ve learned from the best,” said Randall A. Scarlett, who is recognized by Best Lawyers for Personal Injury Litigation–Plaintiffs in San Francisco. “I have seen how our resolutions help our clients and contribute to the betterment of our local communities, and it is an honor to continue this tradition of excellence.”
The impact is being noticed. Best Law Firms again ranked Scarlett Law Group as Tier 1 in San Francisco for Personal Injury Litigation-Plaintiffs in 2025, one of many honors bestowed by the media and legal community.
The success in court has led to notable expansion in Northern California. In 2025, the Scarlett Law Group celebrated the third successful year of its new office in Marin County.
“Our team has seamlessly integrated into Marin, becoming active in community events while continuing its mission of advocating for catastrophically injured clients,” Randall H. Scarlett said of the second office, which features an auditoriumsized conference room and creative trial preparation. “We have made ourselves more accessible to clients throughout Northern California and continuing to provide the highest level of compassionate service.”
Congratulations to Chris Dolan for being selected to The Best Lawyers in America® in Northern California 12 years in a row!
32 Years of fighting and winning large verdicts in complex Personal Injury and Employment Matters.

RUDY EXELROD ZIEFF & LOWE LLP (REZL) stands as one of San Francisco’s most respected employment law boutiques, exclusively advocating for employee rights across California. The firm’s practice is notably expansive, covering most areas of employment law – from senior executive representation to wrongful termination and sexual harassment to whistleblower protection, disability accommodations and equity compensation.
Centrally located in San Francisco’s financial district and about to embark on its 40th year in the heart of Northern California, the firm is uniquely positioned for success representing professionals and business leaders in start-ups and Fortune 500 companies alike in individual disputes and complex class actions.
“Four decades of experience gives our firm unique depth of knowledge, expertise, and credibility to successfully represent executives and employees in nearly every industry, especially technology, finance, and life sciences,” said Name Partner David A. Lowe. Lowe has the distinction of being a six-time “Lawyer of the Year,” including every year since 2023, for either Employment Law (Individuals) or Litigation (Labor and Employment) in San Francisco.
NOTABLE CASE RESULTS
REZL attorneys have earned a formidable reputation for handling high-stakes, high-profile employment disputes. For example, the firm represented Rena Weeks in her pioneering sexual harassment case against Baker & Makenzie; Ellen Pao in her gender discrimination trial against venture capital icon Kleiner Perkins; Tinder Co-Founder Whitney Wolfe in her highly publicized sexual harassment case; Pinterest COO Francoise Brougher in her “glass ceiling” gender discrimination and retaliation lawsuit; and other well-known leaders in finance, tech, and entertainment. Standout results include:
• Dozens of seven- and eight-figure jury verdicts, arbitration awards, and settlements in individual cases alleging whistleblower retaliation, defamation, failure to pay commissions, sexual harassment, gender discrimination, race discrimination, disability discrimination, pregnancy discrimination, age discrimination, and other employment claims.
• Class action wins including the landmark $200 million recovery following trial in Bell v. Farmers Insurance and a $25 million class action settlement
(with co-counsel) in an Equal Pay Act case on behalf of women at a major technology company, along with programmatic changes to address pay equity.
• Negotiating seven- and eight-figure severance packages and settlements for executives, including a landmark $22.5 million settlement for gender discrimination and retaliation in a widely publicized executive case.
• Recovering millions of dollars in unpaid bonus and incentive compensation, including a $6.1 million award to a salesperson for unpaid commissions. “We are proud of our track record and committed to getting the best possible outcomes for our clients,” Lowe said. “Integrity and passion for excellence define everything we do.”
In addition to its effectiveness in the courtroom and at the negotiating table, REZL is an active contributor to the legal community. REZL lawyers have served on the boards and led committees of various legal organizations, including, the Bar Association of San Francisco, Equal Rights Advocates, Legal Aid at Work, the California Lawyers Association, and the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights in the Bay Area. They are frequently invited to present at prestigious national and international conferences and symposiums.
The firm has also been praised by media and the legal community for maintaining the highest standards of professional ethics and integrity, which is reflected in prominent legal rankings that underscore its leadership in employment law for plaintiffs. Best Law Firms® has repeatedly ranked the firm Tier 1 in San Francisco for Litigation – Labor and Employment and for Employment Law – Individuals. That tone is established at the top, as REZL’s leadership has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® several times through the years. Honors for the firm’s partners include “Lawyer of the Year” in San Francisco for: Employment Law – Individuals (2010, 2016, 2023, 2025); Litigation – Labor and Employment (2015, 2018, 2024, 2026); and Mediation (2013).
“Best Lawyers’ recognitions are extremely gratifying, because it means that our colleagues, including opposing counsel, hold us in high regard. And that respect is mutual,” said Lowe, who has been with REZL for nearly his entire 30-year career. “It is a testament to the longevity of our firm and the exceptional service we strive to provide in and out of the courtroom.”
In order to collect feedback on firm and attorney work within specific regions, Best Lawyers curates “metro areas.”
For research purposes, smaller and more rural cities located within a reasonable distance to larger cities are combined into single geographical regions— metro areas—to help us collect as much feedback and data for specific individuals, firms, and practice areas as possible. We also award “Lawyer of the Year” accolades through these metro area distinctions.
For more than four decades, Best Lawyers lists have been compiled by conducting exhaustive peer-review surveys in which tens of thousands of leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their professional peers. If the votes for an attorney are positive enough for inclusion in Best Lawyers, that attorney must maintain those votes in subsequent polls to remain on the list for each edition. Lawyers are not permitted to pay any fee to participate in or be included on our lists.

Rudy Exelrod Zieff & Lowe LLP Partner David A. Lowe, a six-time Best Lawyers “Lawyer of the Year,” discusses the keys to the firm’s longevity, as well as their success in the courtroom and at the negotiating table.
By Justin Smulison
RUDY EXELROD ZIEFF & LOWE LLP (REZL)
has been a cornerstone of California’s employment law landscape for almost 40 years, dedicated to protecting the rights of professionals, executives, and employees across the state. As part of the firm’s longstanding tradition of fostering talent and leadership from within, David Lowe joined REZL as a young contract attorney 30 years ago and advanced through the ranks by successfully handling increasingly complex individual and class action employment cases. His professional journey to managing partner reflects REZL’s core values: a commitment to professional growth, merit-based advancement, and unwavering advocacy for workplace justice.
“We’ve thrived thanks to a combination of talent, mentorship, legal expertise, and ethics—and understanding how they intersect,” says Lowe, who was named the Best Lawyers® Litigation – Labor and Employment “Lawyer of the Year” in San Franciso for the third time in 2026. “Alan Exelrod, our esteemed retired partner, once told me that every great lawyer he ever knew was mentored by a great lawyer. We strive to be great lawyers mentoring great lawyers, modeling excellence and integrity, which is a hallmark of the firm’s success.”
The intention of building a legacy within its longtime San Francisco headquarters has fueled the firm’s longevity in an area that requires deep knowledge, a highly specialized skillset and a finger on the pulse of labor and employment trends that impact the workforce.
This tradition of excellence harkens back to the 1980s, when founding partner Mark Rudy played a major role in developing the field of employment law, notably for example in the age discrimination case Stephens v. Coldwell Banker. He was soon joined by Steve Zieff, who became a partner in 1986. In the early 1990s Zieff began pioneering the use of class actions to recover unpaid wages, including the landmark
wage and hour class action Bell v. Farmers Ins., which ultimately resulted in a $200 million recovery for the class members.
In 1994, Exelrod joined the firm as a partner and along with co-counsel, represented the plaintiff in a well-known sexual harassment case, Weeks v. McKenzie. The trial, which was televised, led to a multimillion-dollar damages award and appellate decision against the world’s largest law firm at the time, Baker and McKenzie. Exelrod went on to represent Ellen Pao, along with REZL Partner Michelle Lee and co-counsel, in her highly publicized trial against venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins. Many legal publications and scholars credit Exelrod’s advocacy in Weeks and Pao for focusing attention on the issue of gender discrimination and workplace sexism, especially in the legal and other white-collar industries.
“We’ve thrived thanks to a combination of talent, mentorship, legal expertise, and ethics—and understanding how they intersect.”
REZL continued on its trajectory as the go-to firm for executives, professionals, and employees of all levels who sought justice after being marginalized, retaliated against, or wrongfully terminated. Rudy stepped away from the litigation practice to become one of the most prominent and sought-after mediators in California. Then, in 2013, Exelrod and Zieff became of counsel, and John Mullan and Chaya Mandelbaum joined Lowe as Partners in 2014. Erin Pulaski and Michelle Lee were added to the partnership in 2020, and in 2025 Will McElhinny and Zoe DeGeer were named Partners. Throughout, the firm has continued to handle high-
profile, high-stakes litigation and negotiations.
REZL has secured dozens of seven- and eight-figure verdicts and settlements following highly charged legal battles, solidifying their reputation as top litigators. Indeed, since 2010, Best Law Firms® has annually ranked the firm Tier 1 in San Francisco for Litigation – Labor and Employment and for Employment Law – Individuals. The firm has remained busy through the cyclical booms and busts of the tech and financial sectors, as well as the #MeToo movement, which drew attention to the magnitude of sexual abuse and harassment in professional settings.
Lowe notes that the firm’s services and expertise are evergreen, regardless of the state of the U.S. economy.
“When the economy is strong and there’s a lot of mobility, people need assistance negotiating those transitions,” says Lowe, who was also named Best Lawyers “Lawyer of the Year” in San Francisco for Employment Law – Individuals, three times in the past 10 years. “And of course people need help when times are tough, as companies downsize and people are let go. Unfortunately, we find that discrimination, harassment, and retaliation happen in good times and bad. The nature of the calls might change over time, but I cannot recall a slow year.”
Despite any influx of clients or claims, Lowe says REZL will continue to be selective in the cases it takes and remain a boutique to maintain its reputation for providing top-tier representation in employment litigation and negotiation.
“The boutique size of our firm is large enough to provide the resources for us to go up against the largest companies and law firms in the world, toe-to-toe,” Lowe says. “We devote the necessary resources to achieve the best results for our clients. And yet we are small enough to provide personalized attention to our clients and a collegial, close-knit environment for our attorneys and staff. We’re the perfect size for how we want to operate and find success as a team.”

INA TRAJECTORY that could lead to the Supreme Court, California is waging two high-stakes legal battles against the federal government to protect the state’s most vulnerable residents.
In the first case, the state is challenging Washington’s decision to strip Planned Parenthood of Medicaid reimbursements, a move that forced the closure of multiple clinics across Northern California. In another, California is suing the U.S. Department of Agriculture over demands for sweeping personal data on millions of residents who rely on CalFresh, the state’s version of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
These lawsuits are not isolated skirmishes. They are flashpoints in a broader legal and cultural war where federal policy is deployed to weaken safety nets and restrict rights. Health care access and food security—two of the most fundamental lifelines for lowincome Americans—are being reshaped through law, regulation, and fiscal leverage.
California has chosen litigation as its weapon. By taking the federal government to court, state leaders are using constitutional arguments and statutory protections to shield reproductive health care and food assistance programs from being gutted.
The federal government is leveraging bureaucracy to chip away at both. The fight is about far more than individual lawsuits—it is about whether law will safeguard or strip away the core supports millions depend on.
Planned Parenthood in Northern California has been gutted. Five clinics—South San Francisco, San Mateo, Gilroy, Santa Cruz, and Madera—closed their doors after the Trump administration’s funding cuts. Together, they served more than 22,000 patients in a single year, most of them low-income.
The closures stripped away critical services. Patients lost access not only to abortion care but also to family medicine, behavioral health, prenatal care, contraception, and testing for sexually transmitted infections. For many communities, Planned Parenthood wasn’t just a reproductive health provider; it was their only source of primary care. When those clinics vanished, so did a lifeline.
The fallout spread quickly. Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, the nation’s largest affiliate, laid off more than 60 employees at the shuttered clinics. Across the system, the number of displaced staff reached 120. Each layoff deepened the disruption. Fewer providers meant longer wait times and fewer appointment slots for patients redirected to surviving clinics. Families who once relied on a nearby office were forced to travel farther or forgo
care altogether.
What makes the closures more striking is that they came even after a federal judge ordered Medicaid reimbursements to continue. The ruling should have offered relief, but it came too late.
California responded to the closures with a lawsuit designed to claw back funding and test the limits of federal authority. Attorney General Rob Bonta, joined by 22 other states and the District of Columbia, filed suit in federal court challenging the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
The measure, signed earlier this summer, cut off Medicaid reimbursements to large nonprofit health providers that primarily offer abortion services. The law was written with Planned Parenthood in mind, and California is treating it as an unconstitutional strike at both health care and speech.
The complaint argues the statute is fatally vague. Under the Medicaid Act, states are entitled to clear notice of funding restrictions before they take effect. Here, the language is so sweeping and undefined that states are left guessing about compliance. That uncertainty, California contends, violates the Constitution’s due process protections and undermines the federalstate partnership that Medicaid was built on.
The lawsuit also raises direct First Amendment claims. By targeting Planned Parenthood for its role in advocating abortion access, the law punishes speech and association.
California and its allies argue the measure is not a neutral spending condition but a retaliatory strike against an organization for engaging in constitutionally protected advocacy. In their view, Congress used fiscal power to silence a political opponent.
The financial stakes are enormous. Planned Parenthood affiliates in California stand to lose roughly $300 million annually in Medicaid reimbursements. Nearly 80% of their patients rely on Medi-Cal, and the funding cut threatens to unravel a statewide network of more than 100 clinics. The closures already underway are the clearest evidence of the damage.
Court rulings so far have been mixed. A federal judge in Massachusetts issued a temporary injunction blocking parts of the law, allowing some affiliates to resume billing Medicaid. That relief applied nationwide, only for Planned Parenthood to confirm that five California sites would remain permanently closed.
The fight over food security has become just as contentious as the battle over reproductive care. In July, the USDA ordered states to turn over detailed personal data on every SNAP recipient.
The directive required names, addresses, and other identifying information for millions of Americans, with the warning that noncompliance could cost states their federal funding. The deadline was July 30.
California refused to comply. Instead, Attorney General Rob Bonta, joined by 18 other states and the District of Columbia, filed suit in the Northern District of California.
The lawsuit argues the USDA’s demand is unlawful on multiple grounds. It violates existing privacy laws designed to protect recipients’ information. It infringes on the 10th Amendment by coercing states into enforcing a federal mandate that goes beyond the agency’s authority. And it fails the Administrative Procedure Act’s test by being arbitrary and capricious.
The scale of the program magnifies the stakes. California receives $1.3 billion each year to help administer roughly $12 billion in CalFresh benefits to more than five million residents. That’s 13% of the state’s population.
Any disruption would jeopardize access to food for millions of families, many of whom already live at the edge of poverty. For these households, losing benefits because of a political standoff is a direct threat to their ability to eat.
California has now sued the Trump administration 35 times in just 27 weeks. Each lawsuit reflects a pattern: the state stepping into court whenever Washington tries to leverage federal programs to pursue ideological goals.
The SNAP data case fits the mold. It is not only about protecting privacy or preserving state autonomy. It is about stopping the federal government from using food aid as a weapon in the same way it used Medicaid to target reproductive health care.
The Planned Parenthood and SNAP cases expose a deliberate federal strategy: cut off resources at the points where Americans are most dependent. By weaponizing funding streams, Washington has sought to dismantle programs that millions of low-income families rely on to survive.
The federal narrative is clear. In defending the Planned
“The battles are not only about clinics and benefits— they are about which vision of America prevails.”
Parenthood cuts, officials argued that the organization has chosen political advocacy over patient care. In the SNAP fight, they framed their demand for personal data as an accountability measure, casting doubt on whether states administer the program responsibly. Both claims carry the same subtext: these safety nets cannot be trusted without federal intervention, and those who run them should be punished for their perceived politics.
California has countered with a starkly different argument. To state leaders, both policies are designed not to improve accountability but to punish and control.
Defunding clinics strips reproductive health care from poor communities. Forcing disclosure of sensitive data threatens families already struggling to put food on the table. In each case, constitutional rights—free speech, privacy, and state sovereignty— are collateral damage.
These lawsuits also raise profound questions about federalism. California is using the courts as a shield, asserting that states can and must resist when Washington oversteps.
Culturally, the cases illustrate how abortion access and food security have become proxies in the larger ideological war. The battles are not only about clinics and benefits—they are about which vision of America prevails: one where safety nets exist to protect the vulnerable, or one where those lifelines are reshaped to fit partisan agendas.
The trajectory is likely to extend to the Supreme Court. Just as prior rulings have shaped the boundaries of reproductive rights and Medicaid, these cases could set new precedent on both health care and food assistance.
The stakes are national, but California is defining the frontline. Whether it wins outright, the state is forcing courts to confront the question: will law serve as a tool to protect the vulnerable, or as a weapon to undermine and control them?

R. Lewis Van Blois has built a five-decade-long legacy of protecting the rights of injured victims and their families. As the founder of Van Blois Law, now headquartered in Lafayette, and with offices in Modesto, Stockton, and San Jose, Lew Van Blois has devoted his career to the pursuit of justice on behalf of those who have been catastrophically injured through the misconduct of others.
Recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® since 2014 in Product Liability Litigation–Plaintiffs, and Personal Injury Litigation–Plaintiffs, Van Blois excelled again in 2026 as “Lawyer of the Year,” in Oakland for Product Liability Litigation–Plaintiffs.
“I am deeply honored to be recognized as ‘Lawyer of the Year’ by my esteemed colleagues in such a competitive and talented field,” says Van Blois, who has been Board Certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy since 1983. “Some of my most memorable clients and cases came by referrals from other lawyers and defense firms, which I consider to be the ultimate compliment.”
The California State Bar recognizes Van Blois as a civil trial specialist, and his certifications reflect his deep knowledge and skill, leading to favorable, high-value outcomes in more than 150 trials. Best Law Firms ranks Van Blois Law Tier 1 in Oakland for both Personal Injury Litigation–Plaintiffs and Product Liability Litigation–Plaintiffs, a testament to the culture of excellence he has built.
Van Blois says the relationships he fosters with clients, co-counsel, and staff keep him true to his mission of protecting others. He recalls one of his earliest cases, representing a young boy catastrophically injured in a drunk driving crash at a dangerous Oakland intersection in the early 1980s. Knowing the family’s limited means, Van Blois accepted the case on minimal contingency, securing a structured settlement and forcing the City to install a traffic signal. Decades later, when the annuity company altered its terms and withheld payments, the client returned to Van Blois. After threatening legal action, he negotiated a new settlement that restored the payments.
“My commitment to every client is sacred and longstanding,” says Van Blois. “In its purest form, plaintiffs’ law is not driven by greed, but by helping victims heal, ensuring they are properly compensated and preventing further harm. Advocacy gives us the ability to improve lives, which is an incredible privilege.”

Every regulation rollback presents new risks that impact families whose lives are shattered by preventable tragedies. Renowned catastrophic and brain injury litigator, Randall H. Scarlett, leads Scarlett Law Group in providing a voice for survivors and those seeking justice.
By Justin Smulison
FOR RANDALL H. SCARLETT, founder of the Scarlett Law Group in San Francisco, the stakes in transportation litigation are rising in 2025. As federal safety standards continue to erode and impact California’s highways and roadways, Scarlett says the courtroom has become one of the last places where victims can demand accountability.
“We’re seeing a steady trend away from safety regulation,” says Scarlett, who has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® annually since 2009 for Personal Injury Litigation–Plaintiffs in San Francisco. “That translates to less safe roads. In the face of deregulation, we’re fighting for victims’ rights.”
Scarlett points to his firm’s current docket as proof. One case involves a woman who boarded a commercial bus in California for a holiday trip to see her mother. The driver, in violation of federal sleep requirements, lost control on a snowy highway. The bus, unequipped with seatbelts, rolled onto its side. The passenger was ejected through the windshield and left with a catastrophic spinal cord injury. “She was found lying in front of the bus—conscious at first, then likely losing consciousness,” Scarlett notes. “These are preventable tragedies.”
Another family’s nightmare began when a different bus, originating in Los Angeles, sped recklessly as the driver tried to make up lost time. A mother of two was thrown from the vehicle and killed along Highway 10. “She wasn’t killed instantly,” Scarlett says of his firm’s client.
“There’s evidence she was dragged along the side of the bus before striking the pavement. Just imagine her terror.” Under California law, her surviving children and husband may seek damages for her pre-death pain and suffering.
is now struggling to raise two young children while recovering, herself. “Our case forced the state to finally remove more than 240 unstable trees,” Scarlett says. “But it should not take multiple deaths and lawsuits to spur action.”
“We see how the data is trending, and it is our duty to equip the plaintiffs’ bar with the knowledge and insight to litigate similar claims.”
Scarlett links these tragedies to a broader trend. In 2025, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) abandoned its plan to mandate speed limiters on heavy trucks, citing cost concerns. For Scarlett, such rollbacks are alarming, and his firm is seeing an uptick in new claims. “Courts are once again becoming the last bastion of protection for victims,” he says. “When regulators step back, the courtroom is where safety is defended.”
Scarlett Law Group also represents victims of a horrific eucalyptus tree collapse along Highway 101. For years, the California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) ignored warnings about the invasive trees’ shallow roots and high failure rate. Within 24 hours of one tree falling and being cleared in December 2022, another toppled across all southbound lanes before dawn. Three cars slammed into it. One man was nearly decapitated; his pregnant fiancée survived but sustained a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). She carried her child to term and
These fights are compounded by court delays lingering from the pandemic. “Justice delayed is justice denied,” Scarlett notes. “When you represent catastrophically injured clients who cannot work, years of waiting for a trial can be devastating.”
Despite the challenges, Scarlett remains resolute. A founding member of the Brain Injury Association of California and a former president of the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys, his presence is felt by lawyers nationwide as he leads continuing education courses on TBI and the evolution of this highly specialized practice area.
“We see how the data is trending, and it is our duty to equip the plaintiffs’ bar with the knowledge and insight to litigate similar claims,” he adds. “Our mission is simple. We stand up for the injured, we hold negligent parties accountable, and we fight to ensure safety isn’t an afterthought. In times of deregulation, that fight is more important than ever.”

These recognitions are given to attorneys who are earlier in their careers for outstanding professional excellence in private practice in the United States. Our “Ones to Watch” recipients typically have been in practice for 5-9 years. Our methodology for determining these awards remains the same as it did when Best Lawyers was founded more than 40 years ago: peer-review. Lawyers are the best resource to provide feedback on the caliber of work performed by their peers. “Ones to Watch” is not a seed list to Best Lawyers and all hopeful candidates must be nominated and vetted by their peers recognized in Best Lawyers.
