Nature in Literature: Basho and Voltaire Nature plays a huge role in many pieces of literature, but especially Basho's Narrow Road to the Deep North and Voltaire's Candide. There is a major difference between the two forms of literature and how nature is incorporated into each. This Japanese form of literature has a much lighter tone than that of the European style of literature. You can see a calmer, more relaxed intention into the nature that is in Basho's Narrow Road to the Deep North. On page 413 in Basho's piece, it says "As the year gradually came to an end and spring arrived, filling the sky with mist, I longed to cross the Shirakawa Barrier, the most revered ...show more content...
In the opening paragraph on page 454, Voltaire writes "Once upon a time in Westphalia, in the castle of Baron Thunder–ten–tronckh, there lived a young boy whom nature had endowed with the gentlest of dispositions." This opening sentence makes you believe that it could have a similar feel to Basho's story. When you reach page 460, there is a line that says "While he was presenting his argument, the air grew thick, the winds blew from the four corners of the earth, and the ship was assailed by the most terrible storm, within sight of the port of Lisbon." This passage not only shows you that the nature of the story is a lot more dramatic, but it also shows you that Voltaire is more focused on the weather instead of the landscape. There is a dramatic earthquake and a storm that destroys the ship that they are on. Page 461 says "Whirlwinds of flame and ash covered the streets and public squares: houses disintegrated, roofs were upended upon foundations, and foundations crumbled." Voltaire writing this in his passage just shows the reader how awful and destructive the earthquake actually was. While you understand that they encountered a massive destructive earthquake, they do actually see some light at the end of all the horrible events. On page 467, it says "'All will be well,' was Candide's reply. 'Already the sea in this new world is better than those we have in Europe. It's
Overview:

The text, Writing on Demand: Best Practices and Strategies for Success is designed specifically for teachers by teachers. With a quote on the cover of the text that is highlighted by a bright orange background and explicitly states that this book is "Ideal for SAT, ACT, AP, and State Assessment Exams", the text quickly announces that its core audience is going to be teachers within the middle school to high school range. Given the aim of this text, it proves to be a highly beneficial work for aiding teachers in understanding how to adequately prepare their students for the rigors of writing on demand, be it for regular classroom assignments or standardized tests. After a thorough analysis of the text I found many of...show more content...
Context for Usage: The grade levels this text is designed to prepare educators for teaching is evidenced first in its overall discussion of properly preparing students to be able to write on demand for state assessment tests. Given that such tests do not regularly take place until students are out of elementary education it is apparent that this text is directed towards teachers working with a higher age bracket. This is also further revealed in instances where teachers are directed to help students think backwards, a skill that is not highly promoted in elementary education as most children at this age level have not yet developed the capacity to think backwards. The process described for enabling students to analyze prompts is also one that would be dominantly used beyond the beginning years of education. Considering each of these factors, the aim of this text is to be utilized by teachers working with a middle school to high school age bracket.
Learning Objectives: Learning objectives promoted in the college level class on teaching writing that this text was handed out in, strongly emphasize the importance of group work, as revealed in the writing theory handout and the scholarly overview handout (see attached). Get
Methodology of Research
The method that I will be using to research my area of sociology will be a structured questionnaire, it will be structured so that the candidates stick to the questions that they are asked and do not write about irrelevant matters. I will first of all produce a pilot questionnaire and send it round to a test group of people, and hopefully see whether or not I am able to obtain the relevant information that I need for my research with the questions that I have asked my targeted group of people. If the questionnaire provides me with my needed information, I will the produce more and send them out to a larger sample of people and obtain my...show more content... Also using a questionnaire is a quick way to obtain information and can cover a wide area of matters with just a few questions, whereas if I had used an interview as my method it would of taken a much longer amount of time and I might of not been able to get the answers that I needed out of

my candidates. Another bonus of using a questionnaire, would be that once I have received all of the information I will be able to put my findings into the relevant tables, and then I will be able to compare my findings to the secondary data that I have gathered with and will be able to do this with ease.
Because I am establishing the role of women within working class households and the effect that their roles have had on their families way of life. I need to be able to define what I class as a working class household; which in my view is a family with either a mum or a dad or both that goes out to work and then comes home to look after that home and the family. Therefore I have asked questions to determine who in the household goes out to work and the sort of jobs that they do around the home. By asking these questions I feel that I will be able to differentiate between upper, lower and middle class households and therefore gather the information that I

However, based on my experience, an effective Bible interpretation not only tells what the passage mean but it should be able to satisfy the spiritual needs of the people to make them desire God more in their lives. My Bible interpretational method varies because I normally consider my audience spiritual needs, interests and weaknesses to get their attention to listen to God's truth and benefit from what they will discover about God.
6.How was the Bible usually viewed in your childhood home? If applicable, how did your parents interpret the Bible? Do you interpret the Bible in the same way as they did? If not, what has changed and why? How do you feel about differences in Bible understanding between yourself and others in your family currently?
When I was younger, I did not know the Bible because my mother used to read and pray with using the Roman Catholic guide booklets. So, when I became a Christian, I just read through it and derive my understanding as the passage revealed the meaning in a practical sense and then apply them to my life and circumstances. But my seminary education contributed much to enrich my understanding of the Bible messages following the proper method of

Abstract
A Week 3 assignment in the class, PHL/717 Constructing Meaning, required a philosophical analysis of an article in the Journal of Psychology. The article investigated how the connection between knowledge and learning influenced individuals to think about controversial everyday issues. The analysis included identifying philosophical assumptions, explaining practical significance and applicability, and relating assumptions and methodology to class readings.

The scientific community has debated the methodology of the attainment of knowledge since Aristotle. Socialscience, such as the study analyzed here, wants to develop a more engaged relationship between knowledge and practice (Delanty & Strydom, 2003). Conceiving their study on previous research done about the nature of knowledge and the nature of learning that influences thinking, Schommer–Aikins and Hutter (2002) introduced an additional element of contemporary controversial issues encountered in everyday life. Their research looked to populations outside of academia to support their hypotheses. Generally, they were able to prove a relationship exists between individual beliefs about knowledge and learning and the ability to demonstrate higher order thinking. Education and critical thinking influence these beliefs (p. 16). The nature of knowledge and learning beliefs influence thinking in everyday life.
Methodology
Kuhn (1996) describes a paradigm as the accepted norm of a science. The standards, rules, and scientific tradition one follows in a particular area of scientific study comprise the paradigm. Research, such as the one described here, "is a cumulative enterprise, eminently successful in its aim, the steady extension of the scope and precision of scientific knowledge" (p. 52). The study provided
Marlene: Good afternoon Houston division, I am so excited to be here with you talking about an exciting quarter for our division. We are so excited to introduce someone who is here with us for the first time. Rachel Ross!
Rachel: Thank you Marlene. In March, I assumed the role of Vice President of Merchandising for the Houston Division. I came from the Michigan Division so the heat and humidity has been quite a change, but being with this division's team has been so amazing.
Marlene: Rachel, we are glad to have you here and excited about all of the energy you have already brought to the team. First let's hear from our Division Controller, Akin Akanni, about how we did financially in the Houston Division this quarter.
Akin: Thanks guys,...show more content...

He spoke of how rare it is to receive the amazing level service that he provided in other stores. Thank you Brent for giving our customers highly satisfying service. We are so proud to have you on our Houston team.
Marlene and Mike: Way to go Brent!
Rachel: Remember being Friendly and Fresh is how we drive our customer loyalty. And speaking of Fresh...our fresh meat and seafood score was a 58.5% which was a 0.6% decline from Q4 and our Fresh Produce score was a 55.4% which is a 0.5% decline compared to last quarter. District 5 showed improvement in both with a 0.9% increase in their Meat and Seafood freshness score and a 1% increase in their fresh produce score. District 2 also raised their Fresh Meat and Seafood score by 0.1%.
Some of our best performers with all of our priorities in quarter 1 were the following stores–
Stores 180, 300, 609, 38, 190 and 367 all met at least two of the four goals and store 156 has met the goals for In stock, Friendly and Fresh Meat and Seafood! Way to go 156! That team there is really dedicating their energy to doing what's best for the customer.
Marlene: Well Rachel we did have one of our best quarters for our Customer First Tracker. Our goal is to get to 272 and we ended the quarter with a 266.7 which was a 5 point improvement. We were the most improved division in the entire enterprise, so everyone let's have a handclap for
This essay is about to analyse certain media text by using particular semiotic codes. The semiology study in particular is based on theory developed by Saussure and Pierce and means study of the signs in the text. According to Saussure the 'language is a system of signs that express ideas' (Saussure 1915/1966 cited in Berger, 2012:7). When media analysis is made it is about to show the relationship between the signs in certain text. Pierce states that everything we do can be seen as sign. According to him the signs can be iconic, symbolical and dimensions (Berger, 2012:4). Symbols and icons are used to represent companies 'corporate identity' (Berger, 2012:11). This paper in particular will be focused on the way that media text use...show more content...
According to Jonathan Bingell (1997:78) every magazine is 'collection of signs', the front cover itself aim to produce connote meanings to the reader in many different ways. The readers are very important, because by analysing the product they bring to it their own cultural meaning and the connotation and the denotation in the picture and text have different interpretation according to every reader`s cultural values (Berger, 2012). Title and the publication of the magazine have very important role in shaping customers' expectations. The title as Goddard states is 'little capsules of meaning' (1998:80). By analysing the meaning of the title and the production, we can find out the class of the magazine. The cover which will be used in this paper is the May 2012 UK Harper`s Bazaar edition (Appendix A) with title 'Jubilee Chic'. The 'Jubilee' connote the so special for the British nation upcoming Queen`s 60th Diamond Jubilee, which was due in the beginning of June. With its monthly publication and made from glossy papers the magazine connote 'glamour and sophistication' (McLoughlin,2000:2).The star of the cover is also very important for the consumer. In this edition of May 2012 the star is Victoria Beckham. According to the magazine there is a reason for her appearance and it is connected with her last cover made for the same magazine, which years ago celebrated her transformation from pop star to fashion icon. This time Harper`s Bazaar celebrated Get more content
