POW/MIA Chair Dedicated in Capitol

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!

For information on how you can join the VFW — in Wisconsin or elsewhere — we welcome your call to our State Headquarters at 608-221-5276 — or email hq@vfwwi.org.

A POW/MIA Memorial some two years in the making was unveiled in the Wisconsin Capitol on National POW/ MIA Recognition Day, September 18, 2020. While the ceremony was not open to the public due to COVID-19 concerns, the commemoration was available for live streaming from WisconsinEye and is archived at wiseye.com. Requested on behalf of all Veterans, the project was initiated by then-State Rep. Peter Barca while he served the 64th Assembly District (Kenosha) and strongly supported by both the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dept. of Wisconsin and Rolling Thunder. The final funding came together last summer, with the finishing touches completed in time for this year’s unveiling. POW/MIA Chairs of Honor are displayed in many locations across the country, including the U.S. Capitol; State Capitols and many other significant venues. The Wisconsin Chair of Honor is a permanent addition to the existing

With all the challenges of 2020 including a viral pandemic; the resulting economic roller coaster and health uncertainties; supply shortages; and social-distancing (the list goes on), we doubt there are few who are not relieved to see Election Day fast approaching on November 3. At last, something we can control . . . at least in our own small way. There has certainly been no shortage of reminders – the constant bombardment of rhetoric; the finger-pointing and name-calling; the daily (hourly?) assaults on our phones. It’s probably been a bit difficult to escape, but now that you’re up to that

10,000th level of your favorite game app, you have a comfortable supply of home paper products and you’ve started on your third cycle of [insert name of your favorite TV show here] reruns, take some time out to formulate your voting plan. • Register if you have not already done so! • Explore your options – absentee, mailin or in-person? What works best for YOU? • Locate your polling place or City Hall for the proper safe option. • Study the issues and the candidates – know WHAT is at stake and WHO supports your beliefs. Don’t forget to examine voting records, especially where

Veterans’ issues are concerned. Knowledge is power. • VOTE. No matter the circumstances of their military service – rank or branch, the conflict and era, years served – all VFW members (and the Auxiliary too!) share a common responsibility – exercising their right to vote. As you very well know, that right and the FREEDOM to choose, are what you fought for. Don’t throw them away. Your vote IS your voice ... make yours heard on Election Day. And thank you for your service, then and now.
