Leadership changes for school board Matthew Tencza was selected president of the school board last Monday, Nov. 28 replacing Timothy Oakes. Tencza was elected by a 5 to 3 vote.

Santa Express comes to town

elected Kari Sassu to take over Tencza’s former position as school board secretary.
Tencza and Jaymee Miller were both re-elected to the board on Nov. 8. Also at the Nov. 28 meeting, newly-elected member Jake Fisher began his term. He replaces William Rasmussen, who recently stepped down.
Berlin High School students Jasmine Nappi, a junior, and Steven Bordonaro, a senior, became the first student representatives on the board. “I think they’ll add a nice dimension,” Erwin said. New BHS representatives will be chosen by a school election each school year. — Ashley Kus

Celebrate The Holidays
The Central Connecticut Football Officials Board presented Nick Zuk, posthumously, and the Berlin High School football team with its Friends of Football Award. The award was for Zuk being the Redcoats’ “11th” man on the first offensive play of each game this past season, as well as the team’s seasonlong tributes to its late friend and teammate. Accepting the Friends of Football Award on behalf of the BHS football team were Michelle Zuk, team captain Mitch Maslowski, team captain Nick Lojko, team captain Jack Hamel, Frank Zuk, and assistant coach John Paul Demko.
