Ida (Mangan) Ragazzi, the first mayor, when a new form of town government came into Berlin 20 years ago, died Wednesday, Dec. 7. She was 90. “She provided the leadership that was needed at that time,” said Fred Jortner, chair of the Democratic Town Committee. The popular Santa Express program wrapped up its 10th year Sunday. For a donation of $10, families register their children to receive a gift from Santa Claus, who shows up at their home on a firetruck. This year, the program was sold out within a couple hours of the first day of registration, leading to nearly 300 visits by St. Nick.
