Students help prom dreams come true
Berlin PD puts a stop to wrong way drivers

Traffic enforcement at Berlin High School is getting a crackdown. The Berlin Police Department was out at the school for multiple days recently observing dangerous traffic patterns, specifically vehicles driving on the wrong side of the road. Deputy Chief John Klett says it has become an unsafe situation with drop-offs and pick-ups during school hours. “We are trying to make it safer,” he said. Several officers, including Klett, witnessed vehicles driving the wrong way on Patterson Way to pass other drivers. The vehicles then proceeded to cut back into the right lane. Wednesday, March 16 until that Friday, March 18 officers wrote six tickets for the violation. “The problem is that people are getting impatient in the line,” Klett explained. When the bunny’s paw went down, the kids took off. The Berlin Parks and Recreation department held its annual Easter Candy Hunt, Saturday, March, 19 at Sage Park, and more than 200 youngsters scrambled all over Auxiliary Field grabbing candy after the Easter Bunny gave the motion to start. “It’s a big anticipation and then they all run out on the field,” SuperSee Wrong way / Page A5 intendent of Recreation Debbie Den-
nis said. Then – “It’s done within minutes.” Clearly a hit with local families, the Easter hunt has been going on for 30-plus years now. And it shows no signs of going away. “We had more kids than last year,” Dennis explained. This was partly due to the springlike weather March 19. Endless winter snowstorms forced the event inside in 2016, but not this time.
Many girls dream of going to prom in the perfect dress and dancing the night away, feeling like a princess. Unfortunately, for some girls in Connecticut this is not possible. “I was talking to some friends about what dress they were going to pick out and then I thought; well what about the girls who can’t afford it?” said Berlin High School junior and Interact Club Vice President, Nicole Cyr. Cyr decided to research ways to help girls get prom dresses they could otherwise not afford. See Prom / Page A3
