Berlin police officers carrying Narcan With heroin overdoses becoming an epidemic in the state, more cities and towns are taking the steps necessary to save lives; Berlin included. On Friday, Feb. 19, Berlin police officers began carrying the live-saving anti-overdose medication known as Narcan. “We are the medical first responders for the town of Berlin,” explained Chief Paul Fitzgerald. Berlin officers were training to administer Narcan last week when two overdoses occurred in town. The old Roger’s Marketplace at 45 Chamberlain Highway will no longer be empty. Mayor Mark Kaczynski announced Thursday, Feb. 18, that Ferndale Market Fresh will be moving in. The new market is an independent grocery store operated by Salim and Samira Saleh, a couple from New Jersey who have 30 years experience running a supermarket under their belts.
