Welcome to be inspired, our new magazine designed exclusively for our privilege club members. And what a great time to launch our first edition, just in time to share the news of our fantastic win at this year’s Garden Centre Association Awards. Our family business has once again been acknowledged as the Best Destination Garden Centre in the UK, a fantastic achievement and an overwhelming reminder of how loved our family business is. And there’s even more to love at Bents with some very special events planned over the next few months. From pampering and preparation for Mother’s Day to top tips and inspiration for the start of the gardening season, as well as entertainment for the little ones over the half term holidays, we’ve got it covered. Hopefully we’ll see you in store soon, but for now, sit back, relax and enjoy the read.

Best of the Best Once again, we’ve taken on some of the country’s most well-known garden centre retailers to be acknowledged as the UK’s Best Destination Garden Centre 2018/19. It’s the second consecutive year our family business has been presented with this prestigious title by the Garden Centre Association (GCA) and 6th time in total that we’ve held the award, and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing colleagues and customers. You, our customers are the reason we work hard to make sure our service and standards are second to none, and it’s these high standards that the GCA are looking for when they award this prestigious title. It’s a fantastic way to start the year and is the perfect thank you to our dedicated team of colleagues who work extremely hard to ensure we always stay one step ahead.

Half Term Fun
Wondering how to keep the little ones entertained this half term… then look no further than Bents.
We’ve been busy planning a plethora of activities designed specifically for the little ones. From face painting and treasure hunts to children’s workshops and craft activities, meaning that the entire family can enjoy the Bents experience and will want to return time and time again for a great day out.

…life sized dinosaurs and pesky pirates Explorers of all ages will love our Jurassic Cove Adventure Golf Course where players must navigate their way through moving dinosaurs and swashbuckling pirates to complete the 18 hole course.
…our interactive nature trail Children aged 4+ can become Eco Explorers with our interactive app. Be guided around our Open Skies Glass House, solving challenges on their way and learning about the living world around us. (Requires an ipad onto which a free app can be downloaded).

SHROVE TUESDAY - 5th MARCH
Flipping Good Pancakes A day of fun and feasting before the fasting begins or maybe just a day to indulge in one of our favourite seasonal treats! From eggs and flour to the perfect pancake pan we’ve got everything you need to enjoy these little layers of deliciousness.
TRY THIS AT HOME
Make the perfect pancake INGREDIENTS
METHOD
120g/4oz plain flour Pinch salt 2 free-range eggs 210ml/7fl oz milk 90ml/3fl oz water 1 tbsp vegetable oil Butter, for frying
Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl.

Caster sugar Lemon juice Lemon wedges or Maple Syrup Fruit
In a separate bowl mix the milk and the water. Beat the eggs into the flour with a wooden spoon and gradually add the milk and water mixture to get a smooth consistency. Stir in the oil and allow to stand for 30 minutes before using. Heat a small knob of butter in a non-stick frying pan. Pour in enough batter the pan to coat the base evenly. Cook for 30 seconds to one minute, until the base is lightly browned, flip and cook on the other side. Repeat the process with the remaining batter.

Get Gardening Weekend
A change in the seasons can provide the perfect push to get back in the garden and here at Bents we’ve got all the inspiration needed this Spring. Our popular Get Gardening Weekend returns on 23rd and 24th March with a host of early season offers and top garden care tips. Over the weekend we will be joined by gardening experts, BBC’s Adam Frost on Saturday and on Sunday, ITV1’s David Domoney, who will both be on hand to answer any of your questions.
Adam Frost is a British garden designer known for his successes at the Chelsea Flower Show and as a presenter on BBC’s Gardeners World.
We’ll be hosting a series of workshops focussing on the seasonal garden and children can also get involved with planting and painting activities. This green fingered event has been planned to celebrate the start of the gardening season and hopes to open the doors to gardening and inspire everyone to give it a go.

Create an Easter Egg Tree
Easter Egg Treasure Hunt
The Easter Egg Tree is a tradition that is growing in popularity and it’s easy to see why: brightly coloured and beautifully decorated eggs adorning the bare branches of trees as spring begins to take hold.
Children not only love chocolate treats, but they also enjoy the buzz of finding clues, so why not create your own Easter themed treasure hunt at home? We’ve got lots of lovely bits and pieces in store which will help you create treasure hunts with a difference, from fluffy chicks and colourful eggs, to pretty little sign posts and baskets, perfect for collecting their treats.
Eggs are usually attached to outdoor trees, but the tradition works beautifully indoors as well. Cut branches or fallen twigs can be made into a table top arrangement or maybe the branches of indoor plants can hold the pretty decorative eggs that can be found in store. Lightweight and colourful they make perfect Easter decorations.

We’ve got some great bags of colourful plastic eggs which will work perfectly for an Easter egg hunt. Hide all the eggs around the garden and give each child a different colour to find. Once they have found all their eggs they will be rewarded with those of the chocolate variety.

Decide on where you want to hide your clues and then scramble up the letters in each location. The hunt may start off by the back door with the next clue to be found in the flowerbed. By the back door would be a container holding pieces of paper, each with a different letter which when put together spell the word ‘flowerbed’. Another container in the flowerbed might contain the letters to spell the word ‘shed’ and so on, guiding them round the garden to the finishing prize point.
