We hope you are having a great summer so far! With the start of your first semester at Bentley quickly approaching, there are some exciting and important things happening over the next couple of weeks. This includes receiving your residence hall assignment if you are living on campus and registering for your first semester of classes!

Thank you for working hard over the past few weeks as you start making your way through your New Student Checklist. Below, you will find some different program opportunities, ways you can connect with the O-Team and your peers, information about upcoming tasks, and even some Bentley traditions to look forward to.

The O-team is in the process of developing an incredible in-person Orientation experience which will take place September 1-4, 2022, for you and your peers to begin building connections and transition into your life at Bentley. We cannot wait for you to experience it all.

Opportunities to Connect with the MCC

If you are moving onto campus in the fall, we know you may be eager to begin shopping for all your dorm room essentials!

The MCC, Bentley’s Multicultural Center, offers many opportunities for new students of color. Two of these opportunities available for new students include MOSAIC and Peer2Peer.

It can be overwhelming to figure out a list of everything you may need, and that’s why we

created this “What Do I Need to Bring to My First Year of College” list just for you! While this list is not exhaustive, it should give you a good idea of where to start.

Worried that you may forget to bring something or not have everything you need when you move in? Below are some tips.

Some students have shared that buying products online and shipping to stores for instore pick-up is a convenient option. Target in Watertown, MA is a popular location for students to shop for school and dorm supplies!

Another option is to have items delivered to campus. Anything shipped to campus can be picked up during business hours in the mailroom upon your arrival. Please note, you can start shipping or mailing packages to campus two weeks prior to arrival.

MOSAIC is a 3 day program which provides the opportunity for first year and transfer students of color to begin building meaningful connections prior to the full Orientation program to help acclimate to life at Bentley.

Peer2Peer is a program that pairs first year students with returning student mentors to create a support system for navigating life at Bentley while promoting academic, personal, and social development.

New Falcon Events

Want to begin your Bentley journey by being strategic about how you spend your time outside of the classroom?

The New Student Programs office and the Orientation Team will be holding fun virtual events for incoming students throughout the summer. We had a great turnout for our June “Kahoot Trivia” event and are excited for you to participate in what’s coming up next!

BentleyPlus is a program designed to help you get the most out of your Bentley experience! This program provides an opportunity to select important skillsets (aka competencies) that you would like to develop throughout your academic year.

Morning/Day/Night “Bomb”= A class that meets for 160 minutes (double the normal class time) only 1 time per week. Taking a “bomb” can help free up some space in your schedule by condensing that class into one block.

FDS= Falcon Discovery Seminar is an academic seminar that combines academic skill-building with discipline-specific content.

You’ll focus on a ‘big problem’ or ‘challenge’ in the faculty member’s discipline. Falcon Discovery Seminar includes opportunities intended to develop a sense of engagement and belonging through shared experiences, connecting you to others and welcoming you into Bentley’s vibrant intellectual community.

Tech Tip Tuesdays- Current students provide helpful hints on everything from how to best utilize your outlook email, to using the Blackboard application and site for the first time.

Where In the World Wednesdays- Learn more about where students from the Bentley community are from or where they may be traveling to.

Baby Falc Fridays- We will be hosting Baby Falc Fridays on the weeks where there are Falcon Live Chats where we will be answering all your questions asked throughout the week via question boxes on our Instagram stories! Head on over and drop us some of your questions.
