A sprinkle of fairy dust to make the world a happier place at Christmas
You might be forgiven for thinking that it’s all about Panto at Christmas for Theatr Clwyd. And with more than 50 performances of their awardwinning Rock n Roll panto, that could be true.
Whilst panto undoubtedly brings joy to thousands of visitors each year, what you may not know is that Christmas also marks a major opportunity for Theatr Clwyd to sprinkle eco-friendly fairy dust (environmental sustainability is a strategic priority!) a good deal further at a time of year when many are struggling.
At Christmas, when consumerism peaks, the experience of extreme low-income families can be deeply affecting so Theatr Clwyd works with Flintshire Social Services to ensure that children and young people receive gifts through their Christmas shoe box appeal. Supported by Theatr Clwyd company members, visitors and their wider supporter network,

120 boxes full of Christmassy fun and colourful treats were created last year to make the world a brighter place for a young person.
Theatr Clwyd regularly invites families identified via referral partners to watch panto for free. Last year more than 600 people came to watch. And for those who can’t get to the theatre, panto is live streamed free, to more than 3300 viewers in hospitals and local care homes, with satellite events at local libraries, hospitals and community venues bringing festive joy to isolated and ill people at Christmas. “So kind of Theatr Clwyd, showing true community spirit and support to our n Katie Elin-Salt as Fairy Daffodil. Jack and the Beanstalk the Rock 'n' Roll Pantomime. Theatr Clwyd 2019 patients!”, said one of last year’s viewers at a local hospital. On top of this their festive elves, or rather talented actormusicians, visit local care homes helping the residents celebrate with music, song and fun.
All this fairy dust lovingly sprinkled by Theatr Clwyd fulfils their ambitions to make the world a happier place one moment at a time, for even the smallest act can make a massive difference to someone struggling.
