New multi-million pound fantasy movie, Excalibur, looking to work with North Wales SMEs!

Secret Planet productions are creating a new multimillion-pound fantasy movie, Excalibur, based on Welsh mythology. It will be the first of a major film franchise being shot exclusively in Wales. Excalibur will be a worldwide cinema release and then stream globally through the world’s largest platforms, passionately promoting Welsh heritage, language, mythology, and culture.

Director Dan Freeman and his team at Secret Planet productions are determined to ensure this project becomes a powerful driver of economic growth, tourism, education, and employment across Wales — much like The Lord of the Rings did for New Zealand. The crucial difference? Wales is the true home of Western European fantasy and the legend of King Arthur — and now, fantasy is coming home.

To achieve this, the Excalibur team is building partnerships with Welsh SMEs for co-marketing and collaborations that can bring local businesses to a worldwide audience they might not otherwise reach.

They are looking to:

• Strengthen the economic package for Welsh Government and investors.

• Publicise the film within Wales via SME partners’ social media and networks. Importantly, this is not about taking money from SMEs. The film’s revenue will come from cinema and streaming success. The goal is to unite Wales behind this thrilling opportunity and take Welsh businesses and culture to the world.

“It’s absolutely vital that SMEs in North Wales are part of this journey,” says Executive Producer, Neil Patrick. “These are the businesses that shape the identity of our communities. By working together, we can amplify their reach and make sure the global spotlight on Excalibur also shines on the incredible talent, craft, and innovation happening across Wales every day.”
