Over a number of years of delivering the Leadership and Management Foundation Degree, validated through Staffordshire University, CWT’s graduates have gained promotions to directorship level, moved into senior jobs at leading global organisations and even put their new skills and knowledge to practice into expanding their own businesses.

In addition to the FD’s graduating students, this year’s ceremony also featured CWT’s first cohort of B.A. Honours Business Management ‘Top-up’ Degree graduates. Having successfully completed the Foundation Degree themselves the previous year, the group benefitted from the unique opportunity of being able to gain two degree level qualifications over a period of three years. The ‘Top-up’ course has proven to be a great success, with this first group of nine students achieving outstanding results including three First Class Honours Degrees and two 2:1 degrees. All nine participating students gained their B.A. Business Management degree.

“I’ve had many light bulb moments during my studies for the Foundation Degree in Leadership and Management.” Before undertaking the Leadership and Management Foundation Degree, Emma Lawrence FdA, held the Operations Director post at DSA Design, a family run exhibitions company that provides global event solutions. After completing the degree, Emma told CWT, “I’ve had many light bulb moments during my studies for the Foundation Degree in Leadership and

Management” and has since accepted the role of Managing Director of the company. Business Management Degree student Paul Miles B.A. (Hons.), FdA successfully completed the Honours Top-up course and subsequently landed his dream job at Jaguar Land Rover, adding “having a proven track record was vital in my being considered by JLR for this particular post. Undertaking and successfully completing the Honours Degree was pivotal in my appointment. I would not be working at JLR without it”. With business demands ever increasing, the need to perform effectively in the workplace, contribute ideas and seek the opportunity for improvement is crucial to keeping ahead of the competition. The Leadership and Management Foundation Degree is an excellent option for aspirational professionals and managers, across a wide range of industry backgrounds, to gain valuable skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, managing projects and financial management, to name a few. The business-focused way in which the course is delivered at CWT also ensures minimal disruption to the workplace for Higher Education students. Careers education and guidance helps young people gain the knowledge needed to make their future career choices. CWT Chamber Training recently partnered up with Coventry based Barrs Hill School and Community College to deliver an inspirational, interactive careers day for the students. Careers education and guidance helps young people gain the knowledge needed to make their future career choices. CWT is responding to the call for careers advice. A recent poll, commissioned by The Student Room, has shown that thousands of young people believe their future careers could be hampered because of a lack of guidance from teachers? The poll also found that just under a quarter of young people complained that they had not received enough advice about how the subject choices they made after their GCSEs could affect their future options. This is an issue that is high on the agenda at CWT Chamber Training, who are committed to ensuring individuals are provided with current, relevant and appropriate information, enabling them to effectively progress their learning and career pathways. Alongside valuable CV advice, career insights and advice on standing out from the crowd, the students were also given an insight into the working world by a range of local employers and Apprentices. These local employers gave students an invaluable insight into the world of work, developing their knowledge and understanding of career paths, vocational opportunities and exactly what employers are looking for. Fred Butler (also a Leadership and Management Foundation Degree Graduate with CWT) caused a stir during his talk when he unveiled an official London 2012 Olympic torch from his employers Premier Sheet Metal who manufactured the torches. Bringing employers and education together provides a vital part in supporting young people on their journey into future training and employment, such as an Apprenticeship. Sessions such as these help ensure that young people are better informed, more aware and more focussed in their transition into the world of work. This is just one of a series of partnership events that CWT Chamber Training facilitate to bring employers and education together.
