Wish you were here…. knee deep in mud? Staff at an Aylesford holiday firm swapped their brochures for a mudbath as they took part in an Army obstacle race to raise almost £2,000 for Kent Air Ambulance. The team at James Villa Holidays battled a 10km course including deep stench trenches, balance beams, blockade walls, wobbly bridges and a freezing ice crawl. They successfully completed The Major Series, designed by British Armed Forces personnel, at Eridge Park set in 3,000 acres of hills, lakes, open parkland and mud. The team were Rebecca Hinks, Donna Brincat, Gary Horsford, Dave Woollcott, Andrew Waters, John Campbell, Karl Greenslade, Malcolm Hoad, Mark Murphy, Jamie Whitebread, Shelley Kingsnorth and Judy Collins. James Villa Holidays, based in Aylesford, has chosen Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance as its Charity of the Year. In total, they raised £1,826 for the life-saving helicopter which relies almost entirely on donations and receives no statutory Government or National Lottery funding. 34

Senior solicitor Emma Palmer joins the legal practice’s specialist Family team having gained significant experience in financial and children proceedings while working with a law firm in North Kent. The married mother-of-three has been a Resolution Accredited Specialist for nearly ten years and has expertise in divorce, the breakdown of unmarried relationships and complex financial situations following divorce, especially cases involving pensions. She has also been a member of the Law Society’s Family Law Panel for over 10 years. Emma is based at Whitehead Monckton’s new Canterbury office in Watling Street, which opened in April. The branch also features legal specialists in fields including commercial and property law, private client work and rural business.
The 41-year-old, from Canterbury, said: “I have long admired the company’s approachability, professionalism, ethos and the emphasis they place on providing a friendly, client-focused service. “The Family Law team very much continues this central theme and always looks for solutions other than litigation, such as mediation, and only views litigation as a last resort.” Robert Coombe, Partner at Whitehead Monckton and head of the Canterbury office, said: “We are very pleased to have added Emma to our Family Law team as she not only has a wealth of experience in the field but also employs a tailored, case-by-case approach that matches our company focus – to really listen to our clients, understand their issues and deliver the legal services they need.”
Devotion to tradition pays off for Kristina Kristina Boulden, of Romney Marsh, was winner of the Entrepreneur of the Year at the recent Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce Awards She said: “Our family have farmed for over six generations on the Romney Marsh in Kent with about 1,000 pedigree ewes. “We carefully hand-pick the highest quality Romney and Merino fleeces from our own flock each year after shearing our sheep, which are then used to create our special recipe of wool. “Our fleeces are hand-processed and woven in the UK by experienced weavers working in the traditional way creating our unique premium range of British home furnishings. We also use the valuable lanolin in our toiletries range.”
