OFFICE OF Accessibility Services

The Office of Accessibility Services assists students with developing their abilities to make wise decisions and encourages students to take advantage of opportunities that are available to enrich and enhance their lives.

All students must provide current documentation of their disability by an appropriate licensed professional. This documentation must indicate a specific diagnosis, information regarding onset, longevity, and severity of symptoms, and must state how the disability and/or related medications and treatments interfere or limit functioning in any major activity, including participation in courses, programs, services, or any other activity of the College. Disabilities may include, but not limited to, sensory, mobility, psychological or medical conditions, or learning disabilities and Attentional Deficit Disorder (ADD).

The staff of the Office of Accessibility Services provides educational assistance for disabled and special needs students and arranges the following services for eligible students as requested:

• Make available use of telephone and fax machine for official business.

• Administer tests for faculty, as requested.

• Make student referrals to agencies providing scholarships or other financial assistance.

• Work closely with faculty to have students’ needs accommodated.

• Provide Peer Tutoring.

• Provide tape recorders, tapes, and talking calculators.

• Make referrals to students for internships and summer employment.

• Make referrals to students for Vocational Rehabilitation Services.

Do you qualify for Academic Accommodations?

Academic Accommodation Letters (AAL) are granted for students on a semesterby-semester basis.

Please complete the following steps to begin the process:

• Confirm enrollment in Benedict College

• Provide appropriate and current documentation of student’s special need; Documents are to be mailed to Admissions

• Documentation must have been conducted within the past three (3) years

• Self-identify a request for an academic accommodation through the Office of Special Student Services by sending an email to: SpecialStudent.Services@ benedict.edu

• Off Campus Students and On Campus Students must have an up-to-date Student Health Form on File

• Complete the short intake form via the Tiger Portal under the Students’ tab.

• Ask questions for information regarding how the Student Health Center can help in the accommodation process, during a telephone or virtual meeting with the Office of Special Student Services

• Once a student completes the short intake form online, the student will receive an email response within 48 hours.
