CONCEPT Leviathan aims to create a continuous flow of motion with discrete, modular units. While not connected directly to one another, the close proximity of the multiple units aims to give the impression of a single, undulating organism.


CODE The code allows us to simulate the kinetic structure through time, while varying parameters to achieve a suitable result.

FUSION 360 MODEL The Fusion 360 model allows us to understand the physcal linkages required and prepare the files to be cut on the waterjet.

ASSEMBLY

Attach fins onto wing pieces according to length

Loosely screw the wings and central rods together

Loosely screw the support arms to the wings

Connect the parts from Step 3 to the acrylic base

Attach the acrylic bars to the bottoms of the central rods

Connect the gears and metal frame together

Slot cams and support rings through metal rod

Insert the rod in the metal frame

Finally, attach the upper acrylic half to the metal frame


RESULT


MECHANISM With a gear ratio of 1:7, the motor is slowed down from 30rpm to a more comfortable rate ofabout 4rpm, also providing more torque. Due to the friction caused by some ill-fitting pieces, additional weight had to be added to some rods in the form of more acrylic.


ADAPTIVE SHADING This project was designed to create structures that can become part of an increasingly responsive and changing social environment. Making buildings themselves to move and adapt in relation to natural parameters : Sun, Wind and Rain
