Blue Ribbon Awards The Blue Ribbon of Patient Care Excellence is awarded to employees, workgroups, and physicians who received honorable mention in a Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey.

I would like to say that I think Beloit Hospital is one of the best hospitals I’ve been in in all the days of my life and I’m 58 years old. They make me feel comfortable and liked - almost like at home. They are intelligent, helpful, and understanding. They understand you, they explain things to you where you can understand it. I love it! Doreen Meikle, RN (ED) was excellent, very informative, polite and pleasant. Thank you so much. I thought they (ED staff) were very professional. I would highly recommend them to anybody! When you go to Beloit Hospital they treat you as if you are the only patient they have, as if you’re the only person in the ER. They’re amazing. I had Dr. Shawn Wilson, Emergency Department that night and he was amazing. He cared about me like I was the only patient he had. Amy Powers, RN (ED) was absolutely phenomenal. She actually took the time to literally sit down and explain each and every test detail and all the blood work that came back. Pam Prins was at the desk in ER Registration. She called immediately to doctors and nurses. She did her job with speed and efficiency! I was scared and everyone was outstanding.

I adore Dr. Leighton Johnson, Orthopedics. He has performed numerous surgeries on my joints. He truly understands me as a person - not just a patient. He has been so good to me. I was treated with kindness and respect. At all times the Clinic Access Representatives were courteous, friendly and totally professional. Beloit Clinic Nursing Staff is VERY good about letting us know if there will be a delay in seeing the doctor and offering to reschedule if we cannot stay. I always felt informed and that’s good! Dr. Julie Vircks, OB/GYN was extremely empathetic and explained everything thoroughly. She is wonderful and I very much appreciate her patient care.

Dr. David Yoon, GI was great. It was my first time seeing him. I will gladly see him again. Juliene Ewers, RN, Pediatrics, she’s the best! I trust her like no other. Always friendly. BHS is lucky to have her. Brooke McKearn, CMA (OB/GYN) She is extremely professional, and made me feel like part of her family. She shows compassion for all her patients and is extremely efficient at her job! I’ve been with Dr. Kathleen Klespis-Wick, Family Medicine for over 20 years. She has taken very good care of me and my husband. Her staff is the same way. They all go above and beyond to help us. We appreciate their knowledge and support.

Value: Satisfaction

The Patient Voice A kind word, a welcoming smile, and a top-notch level of professionalism can make all the difference for our patients – and they are grateful for all you do to make their experience positive and memorable.

Hospital food was very good - restaurant quality. (Hospital Dietary Staff) Respiratory staff were GREAT! John Ferguson took a lot of extra time and explained so much to us. I could not believe that someone came in before every meal to wipe off the table and prepare the space for my tray. Hospitality staff was great! Very courteous and timely. What an amazing staff. I can’t believe how well I was cared for while I was there (Advanced Joint Care Center). Brenda Allen, RN is truly an asset. The CNAs Daniel Gage and Lori McKee were amazing.

My brother was taken to your hospital on June 26th and was there for three weeks. I was there to visit quite a bit and I just wanted to say that, out of all the hospitals I have visited in the last couple of years, yours is the friendliest hospital I’ve been to! All of your doctors, nurses, nursing assistants and other staff were always so polite and helpful to my

brother and his visitors. I especially want to recognize Ruth Bendickson, CNA on Intermediate Care. She really went above and beyond to make my brother’s stay more comfortable. If I ever recommend a hospital to anyone - yours will be the one! Keep up the good work, and thank you so much.

Required Annual Flu Shots The annual flu shot season is almost here. A seasonal flu shot is mandatory for all Beloit Health System employees and all who work in any capacity at Beloit Memorial Hospital and our outreach centers UNLESS----you have turned in a medical exemption form to Human Resources.

Things to Remember: 1. Any employee can go to any of these locations. 2. After the clinics are over—if you have missed getting your flu shot or were on vacation during these clinics—call one of the Occupational Heath Centers and make an appointment with them after Oct. 17th to receive your flu shot. 3. Don’t expect to get your flu shot at Occ. Health before these scheduled clinics are over. 4. If you receive your flu shot somewhere else, i.e., at your medical provider, another employer, pharmacy, school, etc., please send a copy to Julie Lautenbach, Occ. Health at Lee Lane. Julie verifies every employee whether they are compliant with the health system’s flu shot policy. 5. If you need a COPY of your flu shot for another employer or school----please ask for it right away after we give you your shot. That is the easiest way to get a copy of it. 6. Outreach Centers—Julie Lautenbach will be emailing you separately regarding flu shot times.

No more excuses. There are many clinics to get your flu vaccine. Flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the body about two weeks after vaccination. These antibodies provide protection against infection with the viruses that are in the vaccine. The seasonal flu vaccine protects against the influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season.

Please email Julie Lautenbach at jlautenbach@beloithealthsystem.org if you have questions or need further information.

Way To Go! BHS’ Staff Share Expertise Nationally

Thank You Lab Employees

Congratulations to Zach Brooks who will be on the board for the Certification Advisory Group CFI-I for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The Certification Advisory Group CFI-I works to ensure the reliability and validity of the CFI-I exam for Certified Fire Inspectors. In this role, Zach will work with NFPA staff to create new exam items, monitor exam scores, and perform cut score studies of the CFI-I exam.

Hi, my name is Cynthia Deegan and I have been employed with Beloit Health system for 6 years, working in the lab at the hospital as an MLT. I also have been the Commander at the VFW post 2306 in Beloit for the last two years. The VFW has one big fundraising event every year. The Corn Boil has been going on in Beloit for 70 years, and it still amazes me how many people don’t know about it.

Zach, a master plumber at BHS, holds licenses for automatic fire sprinkler fitter, master plumber, commercial plumbing inspector, private onsite wastewater treatment system inspector and fire detection, prevention and suppression inspector in the state of Wisconsin. Zach also holds a plumber’s license and a cross connection control device inspector license in the state of Illinois. In addition, he holds ASME IX Brazer, ASSE 6010 Installer, ASSE 6040 Medical Gas Maintenance and an ASSE 6020 Medical Gas Systems Inspector certifications.

That brings me to giving credit. The hospital lab employees have been so giving the last two years! This year they created 6 raffle baskets to be raffled off at the Corn Boil. Jordan McIntee has been a big help selling our raffle tickets. Without the support of the lab employees, the VFW Corn Boil would not have been such a success. The pride I feel when other members say your coworkers did that, it is the best feeling in the world. I just want to say thanks and let the world know how great they are.

As with all community clubs or organizations, we have had some rough times lately. Five years ago, we almost closed the doors and I stepped up and started helping out. Starting as Jr. Vice Commander, then Sr. Vice Commander, and now Commander, we have started going in the right direction.

The VFW is a nonprofit organization that gives to veterans and the family of veterans. Our bar is open to the public. We also have a nice hall for rent for gatherings. The first Sunday of the month we have an all you can eat breakfast for 6 dollars. This includes biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, pancakes, waffles and sausage. Please come join us. Improving Processes – Your Ideas Wanted Each day, we all have processes that we follow at home, at work, at school. Think about some of the processes you see in your job each day. If you see room for improvement in any process at Beloit Health System - we want to hear your idea. Maybe you see something done a certain way and believe it can be improved, or maybe you have an idea for a more efficient approach. Jesse Blakely, Director of Process Improvement, has developed a short form to

help you share your ideas. It’s entitled the PI (Process Improvement) Suggestion Form and all submissions are anonymous. The form, which is available via the Forms tab on the HartNet, asks a couple short questions to help you share your suggestion. Share your thoughts on how we can make our work better and our jobs easier.
