Living Our Values

Employee Spotlight Focusing on employees and physicians whose dedication, efforts and talent create a BEST environment. Please join our health system in congratulating Kali Miller, RN; Riley Nitz, ED Tech and Riley Rohrer, ED Tech for earning Quality and Engagement Values pins. Our Emergency Department is one of the gateways into our health system for many in our community and therefore the experience our health system delivers in this setting is very important.

These emergency department team members have demonstrated extraordinary care, service and efforts to deliver a superb experience and top-notch quality to the members of our community. Thank you Kali, Riley N. and Riley R. for your dedication to our health system’s continued success!

Riley Rohrer, ED Tech, Emergency Department Engagement

Kali Miller, RN, Emergency Department Quality Kali is an excellent example of what Quality through efficiency should look like at the Beloit Health System. One day, during a slower day in the ED, Kali took the time to go through our RME rooms. She reorganized the rooms to be more PA/RN friendly, thus creating a more efficient work flow. She collaborated with the staff to come up with a list of items that are regularly used in that area, and strategically placed them in the most appropriate location.

Riley Nitz, ED Tech, Emergency Department Engagement Riley is an excellent team player. He is willing to go the extra mile to help out the rest of the team in the ED. New Year’s Eve night, the ED was exceptionally busy. Riley not only agreed to pick up the 5p-2a shift, but also agree to stay until 5am to help out his fellow team members. The staff would like to recognize Riley for not only picking up extra shifts, but often times staying later to help finish tasks. The ED Team would like him to know that “He is AWESOME.”

Riley was assisting a patient who was scared and confused about her care being provided. Riley made a special attempt to connect with the patient and talk her through the procedures that were being performed. Riley took the initiative to treat the patient with dignity and respect despite the fact it was not even her assignment that day. Thank you Riley for reminding us what that extra special touch looks like!

Value: Satisfaction

Blue Ribbon Awards My nurse, Dawn Redmond, RN, was exceptional! (NorthPointe Immediate Care) I have told many friends of the great care I received at the BMH ED and Hospital. I thank everyone so much! They treated me like I was a priority as soon as I got there. Within minutes I had doctors and nurses in there getting me set up. They got the IV going and got my pain under control. That was a very good experience for me at the Beloit Memorial Hospital Emergency Dept. The Doctor, Nurses and the Phlebotomy Team did a really good job with my daughter. She’s a little kid and she was in pain and they did a very good job. (Emergency Dept.) They were very kind and very efficient. I couldn’t ask for any better treatment. They were wonderful to me! (Emergency Dept.) I get all my care from BHS, it was nice to find that you “know” me and I didn’t have to start from scratch. (Intermediate Care) Dr. Leo Egbujiobi and Dr. Phoebe Ezidinma in Cardiology are very good doctors. (Intermediate Care) Wonderful Nurses, Doctors, Therapists and Dieticians. (Intermediate Care) Nurse shared so much and so wonderful. Elizabeth Rogers, RN was simply amazing! (Intermediate Care) I would not be alive but for Beloit Health services and staff. (Intermediate Care) Michelle Adams, RN, Intermediate Care, Chad Schroeder, PA and Dr. Therese Lucietto, Hospitalist were wonderful!! Dr. Thomas James, Hospitalist, was very sweet. He was gentle and very informative. I had a lot going on and he explained things very good to me and my family. Dr. Robert Sage, Podiatry, was wonderful as well as Dr. Daniel Hart, Hospitalist and the Anesthesiologist. Dr. Nissage Cadet, Vascular and General Surgery, and Michael Korbol, PA were wonderful. Could not have been in better care. (Special Care)

The Blue Ribbon of Patient Care Excellence is awarded to employees, workgroups, and physicians who received honorable mention in a Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey.

Loved my experience at the clinic yesterday! Kind and helpful people. Stress free. (Beloit Clinic)

The food was always good and the person serving was always friendly. I was impressed! It smelled DELICIOUS! (Dietary Staff and Chefs)

The roast beef was extraordinary! (Hospital Chefs)

I want to thank Dr. Marek Bentkowski’s Office, NorthPointe Family Medicine, for getting me in early as I knew the snow storm was coming and they got me in before it hit. Thank you very much!

The Nurses and Nursing Assistants did an excellent job of taking care of me and my needs. They were very courteous, friendly and willing to do whatever was necessary to keep me comfortable. (Joint Care) Kristi Thomas, RN was excellent and kind; Josh Gura, CNA on nights is a credit to the profession; Jodi Ennocenti, CNA, Pam Nelson, CNA and Marilyn Wilmer, RN were spirit lifters; Jackie Lisiecki, RN is four stars; Kevin Bengtson, RN was good and kind; Lori McKee, CNA helped me physically and emotionally. When I got to Physical Therapy at NorthPointe, Gayle McMannus, Physical Therapist, had already studied my medical history and took as much time as I needed to feel comfortable. (Joint Care) The follow-up calls by Victoria Feggestad, RN, Family Practice, and Jana Brotherton, DPT - Joint Care Coordinator, were very helpful. They not only listened to my concerns, but also addressed them. (Joint Care) Dr. Daniel Sellman, Orthopedics, instills confidence in his patients and lives up to that expectation. He listened to me and answered my questions. Great skill, great “bedside manner” and he took all the time we needed to ask/ answer questions before and after surgery. (Joint Care) My mother had dementia and everyone was AMAZING during that process! I was very emotional and they even helped me! The staff was thorough, kind and professional. (Multi Care Center) Once we were told mom was discharged to go for rehab, everything went beautifully. Margo McCulloch, Care Coordination Manager, worked very diligently to find a place mom could go! (Multi Care) Dr. Maria Goetzen, Family Medicine, has been a true asset to my health management. She is easy to work with, is concerned for my wellbeing and is very easy to speak with. I sincerely value her opinion and love having her as my primary doctor!

The room was nice and warm and it was clean and neat at all times. (Engineering and Hospitality) I had an amazing experience with my nurse Megan Nolan, RN. She was the best nurse and helped me so much thru delivery and explained everything so well and so down to earth. My husband and I never had the chance to thank her, but she made our stay and labor the best! (Family Care Center) Dr. Cynthia Palabrica, Obstetrics and Gynecology, is amazing! (Family Care Center) Could not have asked for better care from All The Nurses. Absolutely outstanding! (Special Care) Mark Maxted was excellent as the Chaplain. My husband loved his visits. Alie Braukhoff, RN was also great. The bottom line is HOSPICE is great! The care given by the C.N.A.s was exceptional. Thank you all! (Hospice) I could not have asked for better care. The communication between All The Nurses was seamless and each was fully informed about what had happened previously. All of them skillfully navigated difficult family members, taking the time when needed. All treated my step-dad with a high level of care and compassion. (Hospice) Everyone was amazing and awesome! Dr. Lisa Reinicke, Podiatry, worked me in to have surgery and Nikki Holloway, CMA, Podiatry, went above and beyond with my care. Annette Spencer, RN, Ambulatory Surgery, was absolutely wonderful! Greeted me with a big warm smile. Quality of care was exceptional. (Ambulatory Surgery) Excellent. Their attentiveness and excellent demeanor puts you at ease immediately. (Beloit Clinic Receptionists)

Blue Ribbon Awards cont. Toni Polglaze, Registration, at Dr. Paul Segal’s office, Dermatology, is very nice, friendly and remembers patient’s first name. Dr. Segal is a fantastic person and very professional and experienced doctor. Dr. Segal, Tena Ostrum, RN and Wendy Najera, RMA are good listeners and very pleasant. My experience was great. I was very nervous. The Staff and Doctor were very calming. They were also very knowledgeable. (Ambulatory Surgery) This was my first visit with Dr. Steven Yang, Gastroenterology, and I am very impressed. He is very professional and kind, he makes you feel comfortable and explains everything. I highly recommend him! I always have an excellent experience while at Beloit Health System. Switched from Mercy Rockford because of this great service! (Ambulatory Surgery) Recently while on vacation I realized I forgot some of my diabetes medication at home. After making a phone call to Dr. Richard Weirich’s office in Endocrinology, his Staff immediately made arrangements for me to get the needed medication at a pharmacy in Arizona. This took a great deal of stress out of our vacation. Excellent doctor and staff!! The Staff and Receptionist were very courteous and nice. (Beloit Clinic) I chose to see Kari Ziemba, NP, Obstetrics and Gynecology. I’m really glad I chose to see Kari. She explained everything and made sure I understood what was going on. Spring is Coming by Deb Brigham/Gifts from the Hart The Calendar says so . . . . I (almost) actually believe it might be true … and personally, I can’t WAIT! We currently have a nice selection of Easter décor items and fun basket stuffers for the kids that will be on sale throughout April in addition to some closeout deals from our “Spring Cleaning”, so look closely at the clearance section and sale cart as they will be changing often as the weeks progress. We hope to see you all shopping and enjoying our little shop along with us. Have a wonderful Spring and enjoy the newness and wonder of it all!

Decontamination Training Coming in April by Barb Kuska, EMS Coordinator Consider attending the upcoming Decon Training conducted by The Training Group LLC from Waukesha. This is the same group that have done it in recent years. We would like to invite all current members of the Decon Team as well as anyone who would like to participate on that team to attend. The training will consist of about two hours of content in the morning regarding our approach to a hazardous materials incident in the hospital. It will include how to identify hazardous materials and situations and what kind of decontamination is needed.

This level of training is useful to any hospital employee who could encounter a patient needing decontamination such as reception, security, and Emergency Department staff. Some of these staff should also be included on the Decon Team and should plan to attend for the entire day. The rest of the day will include hands on training with our decontamination equipment including getting in and out of suits, PAPRs, and using the Decon shower. Please sign up in Relias for this course or call Barb Kuska, EMS Coordinator if you have questions at (608) 363-5894 or cell (608) 290-4513.

Welcome Lee McFadden, M.D. Orthopedic Surgery

Beloit Health System welcomes Dr. McFadden, Orthopedic Surgeon. Dr. McFadden left home when he was 17 and after graduating from West Point was commissioned in the Army where he served for over 26 years with his military family. He’s lived many places but always missed his own family and wanted to move closer to where he grew up in suburban Chicago. He isn’t a “big city” person and he and his wife like a community with a personal feel. In his words, “Beloit and the Beloit area are perfect for what we were looking for.” They own horses, a relatively new venture for them, and purchased a farm near South Beloit. Dr. McFadden enjoys music, lifting weights, working out, but mostly enjoys working with his patients and restoring their quality of life. Dr. McFadden finished his residency in Orthopedic Surgery in 2001 at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii. His extensive training involved a fellowship in Total Joint and Reconstructive Surgery in 2006. He also has experience with a broad range of orthopedic procedures including sports and trauma. He is Board Certified from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Welcome Dr. McFadden!

... and a thank you to Heather Gray from Dr. McFadden Ms. Gray is a surgical tech in the operating room. I wanted to recognize her for both her exceptional effort and exceptional result over

April 30th 8:30 am–4 pm

Flu Season Continues... The Wisconsin Department of Health has confirmed that this year’s Flu Season is peaking later than usual. Beloit Health System will need to continue flu precautions until April 30th. Please practice good Hand Hygiene and cough etiquette. It is OK to kindly remind visitors to stay home when feeling unwell. Unvaccinated employees will need to continue to wear masks until the end of flu season. Thank you for all you do to keep patients safe from infection!

the last several weeks as I have come onboard with the Beloit Health System. Transitions are hard. It is a difficult time and a stressful time for both the incoming provider as well as the incoming system trying to anticipate the provider’s needs to make the transition to practice as seamless as possible and for patient care to be delivered as efficiently and effectively as possible. Ms. Gray has been stellar in her efforts to make this happen. Prior to my first operative cases, Ms. Gray set up a meeting and took several hours to assemble and walk through my total joint process for both total hips and total knees with the instrument representatives from Depuy present. We identified several items that were missing/lacking and virtually all of these were rectified by the time of my first case. I was very comfortable and confident in her preparation prior to my

first total hip replacement at Beloit Memorial Hospital. She was the tech assigned to my first total hip (a fairly difficult one) and it went as smoothly as any of my total hips have gone in the past 20 years of practice… and this was the first one with both me as a new surgeon and the first time with a new total hip surgical instrumentation system at this institution. I was very pleasantly surprised and pleased with how the case went and I think this is in a large part due to the direct effort of Ms. Gray. She is to be commended and her example reinforced and emulated throughout the organization. Thanks, Lee McFadden, MD
