Pre-k students are natural explorers and scientists. They experiment freely with the world they encounter and develop theories about the way things work. Teachers provide a wealth of opportunities for students to observe, manipulate, and create. Exploring our woodland setting and outdoor classroom provides a steady stream of material for investigation.

Graduating Class Gift
Every year, our soon-to-be alumni raise money to make their first official gift to Belmont Day. This year, the Class of 2019 hosted a car wash on campus, raising $494 while brightening up dozens of faculty and parent cars. After brainstorming options, students voted to earmark the funds to support the purchase of bleachers for Claflin Field and Far Field.

Graduating Class Parent Legacy Gift
Over the years, many eighth grade families have chosen to make a legacy gift to share their appreciation for the unparalleled education their children received at Belmont Day. These gifts also model the importance of philanthropy and giving back for their children—our eighth grade students.

The parents of the Class of 2019 raised $119,625 to create the Belmont Day Grade 8 Parent Fund for Excellence in Teaching. The fund will contribute to faculty professional development and is a wonderful expression of generosity and support for our talented and committed faculty.

I was raised by parents with a commitment to serve and give back to BDS and have been fortunate to develop friendships with some of the most kind, generous, thoughtful, intelligent, and giving people I could ever hope to know. One of my best friends is someone I met in kindergarten at BDS; years later he became a college roommate and remains one of my closest and cherished friends to this day, more than 40 years later.
Building upon this, I am honored to have had the tremendous opportunity to live, learn, and contribute to society with people from all cultures and backgrounds and especially to serve with the kindness and sensitivity that a Belmont Day education instills in us and that has been a foundational virtue in my life.
At BDS there has always been a desire to create leading edge and immersive experiences and to bring more diverse voices into the classroom. Enthusiastic about the direction the school is going, we are inspired that the community remains strong and consistent in its culture and heritage as a foundational learning institution while training young minds to become leaders for the next generation.

This life-long interest in and passion for BDS has motivated my wife Tracey and me to make an ongoing commitment and to include the school in our estate plans.
With compassion and a positive outlook, we love donating to the memorial book fund that honors my late sister Carin Cooperstein ’77, to a legacy remembrance of my late parents Florence and Ben Cooperstein, and to the general endowment funds here at the school.
We hope others will support the BDS community in ways that resonate with their experiences at this special place and by supporting the people and programs that measurably improve the education and lives of our students, their families, as well as the community and world at large.
Richard Cooperstein ’78 Belmont Day School Trustee
