THE OAK CENTER
The Oak Center is Coming!

On Monday, March 24, 2025, the City of Bellflower broke ground on The Oak Center—a nearly 12,000 square foot multigenerational community hub designed especially for teens and aging adults! Located next to Simms Park at 16600 S. Clark Ave., this long-anticipated project will provide dedicated space for these two important groups in our city, offering a vibrant, flexible environment where they can connect, grow, and thrive through inclusive programs and activities.
The Oak Center will feature a spacious common area, three multipurpose rooms, a commercial-grade kitchen, and outdoor patio. The center will host enriching programs for aging adults in the mornings and exciting teen activities in the afternoons—offering something meaningful for both age groups in a welcoming and shared environment.
This exciting new facility is being funded by a combination of Measure A funds, local matching funds, and other grant funds. Construction is officially underway! While we’re busy bringing this exciting project to life, we appreciate your patience with any dust or minor inconveniences. Rest assured, the end result will be well worth the wait! The Oak Center will be a place where generations meet, learn, play, and build community together—and we can’t wait to welcome you through its doors.

Help Shape The Oak Center!
Want to stay in the loop or share your ideas for programming at the new facility? We’d love to hear from you! Check out the links below to provide your input and receive updates for both our teen and aging adult programs.

PARKS & RECREATION MASTER PLAN

Bellflower’s Vision for Parks and Recreation: A Master Plan for the Next Decade
On November 12, 2024, the Bellflower City Council adopted the City of Bellflower Parks and Recreation Master Plan, a guiding document designed to enhance the city’s parks, facilities, programs, and special events for the next ten years. This Plan offers a strategic framework to assist city staff, elected officials, and stakeholders in making well-informed decisions to improve the quality of life for all residents.
Developed over the course of a year, the Master Plan reflects a close collaboration between city staff and KTU&A Planning and Architecture. The process included park site visits, community workshops, stakeholder meetings, and extensive data analysis. These efforts aimed to ensure the plan is rooted in community needs and priorities, while also incorporating best practices and current industry trends.
The Plan provides direction and insight for future planning and funding opportunities without committing the city to specific projects or programs. Instead, it creates a shared framework to align goals and secure resources, enabling the city to adapt to new opportunities as they arise.
Commitment to Community Well-Being
Highlights of the Plan include:
• Comprehensive Guidance: Recommendations to enhance and maintain Bellflower’s parks, facilities, and programs, with a focus on accessibility and sustainability.
• Community Focus: A design shaped by extensive community engagement to ensure the plan reflects the unique needs and aspirations of Bellflower’s residents.
• Long-term Vision: A strategic approach to managing resources and planning for the city’s growth, while prioritizing health, recreation, and social connectivity.
While the adoption of the plan itself has no immediate fiscal impact, it sets the stage for future projects and initiatives that will undergo further policy and financial evaluations.
This Master Plan reaffirms Bellflower’s commitment to creating spaces and programs where residents can build positive memories and relationships while supporting their physical well-being. It represents a significant step toward making Bellflower’s Parks & Recreation Department a model for community health and vitality.

Spotlight Instructor

I am the Instructor of Karate at Simms Park, where I have been teaching since 2015. My journey into martial arts began with years of training and competing across different disciplines. I found a passion for teaching and wanted to help others experience the same growth and discipline that martial arts had given me. I take great pride in seeing my students improve every day, and it’s incredibly rewarding to help them take their first steps into what I hope will be a lifelong passion. If you’re interested in taking my class, I’d say come ready to learn and have fun. Whether you’re curious or unsure, you won’t know until you try!
