PARKING TIPS

As the new school year kicks off we want to remind everyone to follow all posted signs, do not park or leave your vehicle standing in red curb areas, and do not double park. Ensure you are paying attention to your surroundings, following the directions of crossing guards, and keeping an eye out for pedestrians. Drop off and pick up times are generally the most heavily impacted for parking; arriving early is always the best option to avoid parking and traffic conflicts. We hope the 20242025 school year is a success for all students and parents.

Chamber of Commerce New Business Welcoming Program

In partnership with the Bellflower Chamber of Commerce, the City of Bellflower welcomes new brick-and-mortar businesses to town by offering no-cost Chamber membership for the first year of operations. This program is open to storefront businesses located in Bellflower. The Chamber of Commerce hosts many networking events throughout the year, and will host a free Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Event for all new members.

For membership information, call the Chamber of Commerce at (562) 867-1744 or email bellflowercoc@gmail.com.

Red Light…Yellow Light…Green Light, Go!!!

Through a series of grants made available through Metro, the Bellflower City Council has recently “Green Lighted” several traffic signal improvement projects throughout the community to improve overall safety for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists. These improvements are currently in progress or planned for the following locations:

Lakewood Boulevard

Two new traffic signals are planned along Lakewood Blvd at Cedar St. and Mayne St. Both locations represent new controlled locations where vehicles and pedestrians can access the local neighborhoods. There are also several existing traffic signals receiving upgrades and modifications. The modifications include the addition of left turn arrows for east and westbound vehicles at Flower St. and Somerset Blvd while the Alondra intersection has received upgraded signal equipment and the existing turn pockets have been lengthened to accommodate more vehicles.

Bellflower Boulevard

The installation of a new traffic signal is underway a Cedar St. This signal will provide a controlled intersection for vehicles and pedestrians to safely maneuver in and out of the local neighborhoods. The existing traffic signal will have upgraded signal poles and mast arms to match all other traffic signal equipment in the downtown district. Finally, the traffic signal at Alondra has recently been prepped and re-painted.

Foster Road

Foster Road will soon see an additional traffic signal installed at the intersection of Charlemagne/Ardis through funding made available through Metro. The grant funds will also provide for modifications to the existing signals at Clark Ave. and Bellflower Blvd. to incorporate protected left turn arrows for east and westbound vehicles.

New Kiosk Tenants

This summer Downtown Bellflower was packed full of activity, including the opening of two new kiosk operators on Belmont St. Pamper your body with all natural, organic soap, scrubs, lotions and hair products from KaziRokz located in Kiosk B. Owner Shiela Jackson, a local resident, works tirelessly to create soothing formulas that help tackle skin aliments such as acne, eczema, and impurities. Her products are hand-made and are tailored to address the season’s weather conditions and customer demand.

Jackson is a graduate of the city’s 37 Oaks Retail Readiness program and was a regular vendor at the Bellflower Farmers Market. To check out her products, stop by Kiosk B or visit www. kazirokz.com.

Love shopping for unique clothing that fits your style? Stop by the newest kiosk operator Thrift & Things in unit C. The motherdaughter duo, Elizabeth and Isabella, work to upcycle clothing, sell one-of-a-kind accessories, and offer many vintage items. Their best selling product is western Lucchese boots, made in Texas from quality leather, which are available for both men and women. Spotlight Instructor

I currently teach painting classes at Thompson Park. My journey began in 2000 when a director, aware of my pursuit of an Art degree, invited me to teach at their facilities. Over the years, I’ve taught diverse groups, including adults with developmental disabilities and youth in after-school programs. I’ve been teaching at Thompson Park for 8 years now. My favorite part is showing kids the painting example and witnessing their pride as they successfully complete their own works. If you’re considering my class, don’t be discouraged—painting is a wonderful way to relax and express yourself. Plus, I pre-draw the picture for you to paint, making it easier to achieve great results.
