Upcoming Public Works Projects
Alondra Street Rehabilitation
Each year, the City allocates funding for street repairs through a variety of project types. Street repairs are planned based on the recommendations of the Pavement Management System, a report that is a comprehensive review of the condition of all city streets within Bellflower boundaries and identifies those streets in most need of repair. This year we will be doing street repairs on Alondra Boulevard from Bellflower Boulevard to Hayter. The project is expected to begin in the fall and will last for approximately two months. During the project, sections of the roadway will be temporarily closed to through traffic while crews complete milling, paving, and striping. Detour routes and signage will be in place to guide motorists around the work areas. We encourage drivers to plan ahead, use alternate routes, and allow extra travel time during construction. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to enhance the safety and quality of our city streets.
Aquatic Center Outdoor Pool Improvements
This project is a comprehensive renovation of the outdoor pool at Thompson Park. Work includes resurfacing of the pool plaster and replacement of pool deck. It will include updated fixtures as well as replacement filter tanks. The renovation aims to extend the pool’s lifespan, ensure compliance with current safety standards, and create a more enjoyable space for the community. This project is anticipated to begin in October and will take approximately 5-6 months to complete. While the outdoor pool area is closed, the indoor pool area will continue to be open with regular programming. This project is being funded by a combination of HUD Community Planning and Development grant funds and local matching funds.

THE OAK CENTER
The Oak Center is Coming!
On Monday, March 24, 2025, the City of Bellflower broke ground on The Oak Center—a nearly 12,000 square foot multigenerational community hub designed especially for teens and aging adults! Located next to Simms Park at 16600 S. Clark Ave., this long-anticipated project will provide dedicated space for these two important groups in our city, offering a vibrant, flexible environment where they can connect, grow, and thrive through inclusive programs and activities.
The Oak Center will feature a spacious common area, three multipurpose rooms, a commercial-grade kitchen, and outdoor patio. The center will host enriching programs for aging adults in the mornings and exciting teen activities in the afternoons—offering something meaningful for both age groups in a welcoming and shared environment.
This exciting new facility is being funded by a combination of Measure A funds, local matching funds, and other grant funds. Construction is officially underway! While we’re busy bringing this exciting project to life, we appreciate your patience with any dust or minor inconveniences. Rest assured, the end result will be well worth the wait! The Oak Center will be a place where generations meet, learn, play, and build community together—and we can’t wait to welcome you through its doors.

I’ve been teaching volleyball at Thompson Park since 2014 and remain an active player in the sport. Most recently, my women’s team earned a silver medal at the Senior National Games (July) and gold medal at the Huntsman World Senior Championships (October). My passion for volleyball inspires me to share my knowledge and experience with the children in my classes. Alongside my husband, I create a confidence-building environment where players can grow and thrive. Our program focuses on three key elements: body, mind, and heart. Players learn the fundamentals of the sport through a variety of drills designed to prepare them for middle school, high school, and club team tryouts. I’m proud to have helped develop some of the best players in the surrounding schools. Whether you’re brand new to the game or looking to sharpen your skills, I invite you to join us and experience the excitement of volleyball! - Barbara Norbut, Volleyball Instructor
