BELLARMINE PREPARATORY SCHOOL
2023-24 IMPACT REPORT
A LEGACY OF POSSIBILITY

Dear Bellarmine Community,
This year marked a significant chapter in Bellarmine’s journey, highlighted by the continued support of our benefactors. As I transitioned to the role of president during the 2023-24 school year, I had the privilege of engaging with students, parents, alumni, benefactors and partners. These interactions have underscored the profound interconnectedness of our community. With your generosity, we’ve had an incredibly fruitful financial year, ensuring that our mission remains vibrant and impactful. Thank you to our donors, families, graduates, and community partners for your dedication to our mission and for enriching the lives of our students.
It is, and always will be, Bellarmine’s Catholic, Jesuit mission that bonds us; this year’s successes reflect that collective commitment. Over the past year, we’ve made notable strives on our strategic initiatives, including:
• Campus Master Plan: We initiated the process of developing plans that will continue to transform our campus, creating an environment that enhances both academic growth and spiritual formation.
• Five-Year Goals: The school has made progress toward the long-term goals set for 2027, aligning our vision with measurable actions.
• 100-Year Celebration Planning: We have begun preparing for Bellarmine’s centennial in 2028. We are excited to broadly share the Bellarmine story — a story that ignites both our legacy and hope-filled future.
Access to a Catholic, Jesuit education remains at the forefront of our mission. Bellarmine is committed to keeping tuition affordable for students across the South Sound region. This presents both a unique challenge and opportunity — and one that we can’t accomplish without your support. At the 2024 Gala, we raised an unprecedented $1.1 million for tuition assistance, allowing more students to experience the transformative education Bellarmine offers.
This report highlights the invaluable contributions of our beloved Bellarmine Boosters, whose dedication and support are instrumental in enhancing the athletic experience at Bellarmine. Proudly, our very own student journalists report on this story. Since 1945, the Boosters have served as a cornerstone of our school’s athletic success. Their unwavering dedication to Bellarmine’s athletic programs demonstrates the powerful partnership between parents and the school. The Boosters have not only enhanced our athletics but have also fostered a sense of community that has inspired generations of athletes. On behalf of Bellarmine, I want to thank Tom B’86 and Linda Bordeaux (P’12, ’14, ’17, ’25) for their long-standing leadership and commitment to Bellarmine.
Please join me in a resounding Lion’s Roar of gratitude to all our benefactors. Our students and alumni continue to exemplify the values of leadership and service that define a Bellarmine education. With your continued support, this tradition of impact will only strengthen, benefiting future Lions and expanding Bellarmine’s legacy far and wide.
With deepest appreciation,
Kelly Goodsell, President (COVER) St. Ignatius Loyola Center/Booster Gym today and the original Booster Gym built in 1958.
Our Mission Bellarmine, as a Catholic college preparatory school in the Jesuit tradition, through dedication to academic excellence and development of the whole person, graduates young men and women of competence, compassion and conscience, who are committed to leadership and service.

Tom Bordeaux’s Lasting Legacy as Booster President
Embodying true Bellarmine servant leadership, Tom Bordeaux B’86 has been one of the most influential leaders within the Lion community in the past decade while serving as the Bellarmine Booster Club President.
The Bordeaux name has been a fixture at Bellarmine for many years. All of Bordeaux’s brothers went to Bellarmine, along with numerous nieces and nephews. With his wife Linda, who herself has logged numerous volunteer hours at the school, they have sent all four of their boys through Bellarmine - Austin B’12, Brodie B’14, Collin B’17 and current student, J.J. B’25
Bordeaux’s contributions as a Booster came at a critical time. Joining the Booster Board 17 years ago, he ushered in a new era for the club by spearheading the growth of the Booster Golf Tournament and Crab Feed fundraising events.
Booster articles written by members of the Bellarmine Lion, the school’s awardwinning student journalism program: Margeaux Liloc B’25, Owen Mikkelson B’25 and Ainsley Joyce B’26
In collaboration with the likes of Greg Allen B’84, Matt Philichi B’79, Tim B’80 and Joe B’81 Bordeaux, and Jeff McVicker, the Booster Club revived the beloved events, fully committed to supporting Lion athletics. “We never questioned what our mission was,” said Bordeaux.
The Boosters’ hard work showed in the large involvement garnered in 2024. Around 1,000 community members attended the Crab Feed and the Booster Golf Tournament amassed 144 players and 13 new business sponsorships. The tournament is a staple community event engaged by countless alumni. Bordeaux cites the long drive fundraiser, led by the Bellarmine golf teams, as one of his favorite Booster initiatives.
Countless accomplishments define Bordeaux’s Booster presidency. The first major project was building a new Booster Gym. Constructed over the course of five years and completed

in 2010, the Boosters led fundraising efforts to provide the Lion community with a new gymnasium, donating $500,000 to the project.
As a student athlete at Bellarmine, Bordeaux played in the original Booster and Names Gyms, and as a Booster, he watched his oldest son play in the new Booster Gym, which was funded under his leadership. This personal connection to service makes Bordeaux and the Booster Club uniquely passionate and impactful.
Ed Ploof B’75, Bellarmine’s former Athletic Director, spoke to this, saying Bordeaux is “extremely dedicated to Bellarmine.” Beyond the Booster Gym, the club also supported the creation of Bellarmine’s Memorial Field in 2017, replacing the historic all-grass field and defining a new era of school athletics.
While Bordeaux’s service to the school has produced mass support and change for the community, he urges everyone to get involved, no matter the scale.
“Everybody, in my opinion, is considered a Booster. It’s just what degree do they want to get involved,” he said. “Whether it’s through financial assistance or whether it’s volunteering, it doesn’t mean you have to be one of the 10 or 12 people on the Board — it is just getting involved.”
After a decade of leadership and invaluable contributions, Bordeaux is retiring from his role as Booster President, passing the honor on to Mark Nino, both a former and future Bellarmine parent. Nino’s oldest son graduated from Bellarmine in 2024, and he has two future Lions currently attending St. Charles Borromeo School.
“Over the past decade, we’ve maintained a strong foundation fostered by Tom. My focus and dedication, working with the Bellarmine Administration and Athletic Department, will continue to grow,” Nino said. “The future has never been brighter here at Bellarmine, and along with myself and the fellow members of the Boosters, we look forward to continuing to serve and support the athletic programs at our great school.”
Reflecting on Bordeaux’s leadership over the years, Bellarmine’s president, Dr. Kelly Goodsell, said, “Tom has courageously led and inspired the Bellarmine Boosters, and I think the uniqueness of how we do sports at Bellarmine comes back to our Jesuit values. Tom laid the road for this.”

Who exactly are the Boosters?
The Bellarmine Boosters are crucial benefactors who support Bellarmine student-athletes.
While the Boosters’ Board is made up of dedicated parents, alumni, and friends of Bellarmine, anyone can be a Booster and give to the Bellarmine community through their time, talent and treasure. No wonder Booster President Tom Bordeaux’s proclamation rings true: “Everybody is a Booster.”
The Boosters’ mission, according to Bellarmine Athletic Director Kevin Meines, is “to support the school’s vision for athletics,” which they have done time and time again.
Everybody is a Booster.
Since its inception in 1945, the Bellarmine Boosters have generously funded countless initiatives for student athletes. Recent contributions include:
• Booster Gym renovation
• Names Gym renovation
• Memorial Field turf refurbishment
• Scoreboard for girls fastpitch
• Wrestling Mats
• Financial assistance for athletic invitationals
Through their financial support of athletics at Bellarmine, the Boosters have been crucial in advancing programs in other ways. Former girls volleyball coach Jody DeGroot B’83 recalls the pivotal inclusion of video recording for player development, scouting and strategic planning for games. DeGroot

FUN FACT:
From the 1940s to the end of the 1970s, the Boosters funded the entire athletic program for Bellarmine. In those days, the group consisted of dedicated volunteers who organized events such as BOOSTO — a weekly bingo event — and the Crab Feed. Although bingo was discontinued, the crab feed remains and is the leading source of income for the Boosters. Additionally, the annual Bellarmine Booster Golf Classic showcases Bellarmine golfers while raising funds for the Athletic Department.

emphasizes how crucial the Boosters were in “boosting” the volleyball program to where it is today through the funds they provided the team.
Over the years, the Boosters have prioritized the partnership between the organization and the school. Student athletes have continued to remain at the forefront.

Meines reinforces the Boosters’ mission.
“It’s all about the student athletes and their experience.”
The Boosters have made athletics at Bellarmine an exercise for mind, body and spirit. President Goodsell reflects that the Boosters are “believers in the power of sport as a vessel for holistic education.”
Through their contributions, the Boosters embody Bellarmine’s motto of “Ad Majórem Dei Glóriam (AMDG)” and encourage athletes to live for the greater glory of God.
As Bordeaux retires from his stay as president of the Boosters, the new president, Mark Nino, steps in.
The Boosters would not be where they are today if not for the efforts of all the wonderful alumni, parents, friends and volunteers who support the Bellarmine community in their everyday lives.
