An Introduction

This is a brief overview of how best to use our H@PP facility. Located at: 116-124, Haggs Rd, Bellahouston, Glasgow G41 4AL It is predominantly used as a base of training on Tuesday nights, but it can be booked out to support our events throughout the year.

1. Introduction

1.1 Introduction

Following an extensive consultation with all members regarding our previous base of operations, the club made the decision to relocate to H@PP in March 2024.

This move was prompted by feedback highlighting the need for better facilities, improved accessibility, and a more suitable environment for our growing membership (particularly the Junior division).

Over the past six months, we have gradually adjusted to operating out of H@PP, exploring the available amenities and adapting our training sessions to the new location.

As with any transition, there have been both positive developments and areas for improvement. To ensure we make the most of this new venue, the purpose of this document is twofold:

+ To provide members with detailed guidance on utilising the facilities at H@PP to the best of their ability.

+ To address key feedback raised during the 2024 annual members’ survey, which highlighted areas where improvements could enhance the overall experience for all members.

By outlining the venue’s features, addressing concerns, and offering practical advice, this document aims to ensure that all club members can fully benefit from our new training base while fostering a sense of community and ownership of the space.

2. Times

2.1 Times Of Use

The club has a rolling booking for H@PP on Tuesday evenings between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. During this time slot, members can access all the facilities detailed in this document.

Arrival and Departure

Members should not arrive before 6:00 pm, as the venue is in use by the school, and we do not have permission to access the building before this time.

Similarly, members should depart no later than 8:00 pm. Janitorial staff are scheduled to remain on site only for the duration of our booking, and in some cases, we may be the last group using the facilities.

Other Users

Be mindful that other groups may also be using the venue during our training slot. Please ensure that all club activities are carried out with respect to other lets, particularly in shared areas, to maintain a positive relationship with H@PP and its users.

Accessing the Container

The club has moved our storage container to H@PP. Access to the container during our booking slot can be arranged, and a gate code can be provided to members who need it for access outwith our bookings, to collect and return equipment for XC and other events.

Additional Bookings

The club can arrange additional access to the facility beyond our regular Tuesday evening slot, such as for races or other events. All questions about extra booking should be directed to the Club Secretary, who will coordinate arrangements with the school for the committee.

Janitor Assistance

A janitor is available during our training nights to provide general support, e.g. assistance with locker keys, locked doors, spillages, etc.

Issues with Facility

If you experience any issues or require assistance with the facility, please let a committee member know first so they can raise the matter directly. If no committee member is available, please speak with a member of the coaching team.

3. Facility Highlights

3.1

Changing Facilities

At H@PP, we have dedicated male and female changing rooms designed to provide comfort and convenience for our members before and after training sessions. Both changing rooms are equipped with:

Toilets: These are available in each changing area.

Showers: Providing facilities for members who wish to freshen up post-training.

Lockers for small valuables: Each changing room has small lockers for storing personal items securely. Please note that the keys for these lockers can be obtained from the janitor on training nights. Members are encouraged to use these lockers to store small valuables (Car keys and phones).

Larger belongings: For larger belongings, you can leave them on the changing room benches or, if you prefer, drop them into the janitor’s office for added security.

Access Notes:

The male changing room is accessible only via the outside door located under the sheltered outside overhang. Members using this facility must exit the building and then reenter it. (See map for further information).

The female changing room is accessible from the main entrance lobby.

3.2 Toilets

To ensure all members have easy access to restrooms, H@PP provides multiple toilet facilities throughout the venue:

Downstairs Toilets: Located within the male and female changing rooms.

Upstairs Toilets: There are additional toilets located on the upper floor for convenience (Male members may wish to use these as opposed to the changing rooms to ensure they do not have to leave the building).

Accessible Toilet: An accessible toilet is located on the ground floor just off the lobby for those requiring additional support or accessibility.

Please ensure you use the appropriate labelled toilets and changing rooms. If you notice any members, especially newcomers, who may be unsure where these facilities are located, kindly assist them to ensure everyone feels comfortable.

3.3 First Aid

A defibrillator is mounted on the wall in the entrance foyer, with a key available in the janitor’s office

A first aid kit is also located in the janitor’s office for use if required. We are currently looking into equipping our coaches with first aid kits during training sessions to ensure prompt access. Once these kits are ready, they will be stored in the club container for convenience.

3.4 Social Area (Upstairs)

The upstairs social space, located on the first-floor mezzanine, is a dedicated area for members to gather before and after training sessions. It is an ideal spot for social interaction, allowing members to catch up, discuss training, and enjoy a relaxed environment.

During the warmer months, some members may prefer to stand outside for fresh air and conversation. However, the upstairs mezzanine offers a convenient indoor alternative, especially when the weather isn’t suitable for outdoor gatherings.

A small tea kitchen is conveniently located just off the landing. Members can prepare hot drinks using the supplies provided by Bellahouston Harriers in our designated club box. Please ensure that the kitchen is kept clean and all items are returned to their original places, as our permission to use this facility depends on maintaining its tidiness.

For our junior members, the lobby area remains the preferred location to wait for their parents, allowing coaches to monitor drop-offs and pick-ups easily. While juniors use this space for logistical reasons, it is not intended as a primary gathering area for seniors.

As a reminder, we should be mindful of other users when using the upstairs social area. Please keep noise levels in check to help maintain a respectful environment for everyone sharing the facility.

3.5 Parking and Traffic

H@PP provides ample on-site parking for both cars and bikes. The designated parking areas are easily accessible and designed to accommodate our growing membership.

In addition to the on-site facilities, there are overflow parking options available on Shawmoss Road. This provides additional space for members if required.

When planning your journey, it’s important to consider the traffic conditions in the area. Dumbreck Road and the M77 junction can experience heavy congestion, especially on nights when football matches or other events are on at Ibrox or Hampden. To avoid delays, members may wish to allow extra travel time or consider alternative routes.

To avoid the congested traffic on match nights, consider parking on streets further afield and enjoying a warm-up jog to H@PP.

3. Facility Highlights

3.6 The Storage Container:

Location: The storage container is conveniently situated at the rear of the main building , allowing members easy access during training sessions and events.

Storage: Inside, you will find various items, including our gazebo(s), training equipment, safety gear, race signage, and other event materials for the Goodwin 10k and various club activities.

Access: Members can obtain a key for the storage container from one of five designated key holders (Ask a committee member for more information). For additional access outside of regular hours, members can use the code for the main key lock if the premises are closed.

By ensuring that all equipment is stored properly and returned after use, we can prolong the lifespan of our resources and improve the overall efficiency of our training operations.

3.7 Other areas/spaces

Surrounding playing fields: Our training base is in a larger grass area with several rugby pitches. Feel free to use this space for warm-ups and cool-downs before and after sessions.

Meetings space: The upstairs dance studio is available for more private meetings or situations where noise is a concern. To book this space, please email the BH Secretary using the address provided at the end of this document.

Main Hall: Please note that access to the main hall is part of a separate booking arrangement our club does not have. Any use of this facility would require prior approval and a formal booking.

The club shares facilities with various other groups, so all members must respect noise levels and be mindful of space usage during our sessions.
