Father Rector's Message

The growing trend of the School, which went up to 220 pupils this year, made us continue the improvements which were started last year. We had to duplicate the seventh, eighth and ninth Grades. The Cafeteria was expanded and airconditioned. The teaching material was increased. New facilities were provided for the office and sports department.

The library, enriched with a great number of volumes, has been transferred to a centrical position where the students have ea'3y access to it.

The increasing co-operation of our boys and their parents have made possible the organization of new extracurricular activities, such as the Boy Scouts and Explorers, and the success of our traditional Belen Festival on behalf of the Scholarship Fund.

In sports, Belen went up to occupy the headlines. The intramural championships have been enriched by the soccer tournament, among others.

But above all may I mention the great interest shown and the effort of our boys in order to take the best advantage of the jesuit education which comprises the total formation of the individual not only intellectually, but also physically and morally.

All this means that Belen is gaining in Miami the traditional "push" which has been the outstanding trait among the alumni of our already 113 years old institution.

With these achievements and the help of our friends and benefactors, let us look forward confidently to the coming year with the blessing of our Lord, and sing with the poet: "Excelsior!".

1967 Basketball

With a new coach and short players our 1967 Varsity Basketball Team had its best season yet. To the surprise of many we upset La Salle at the beginning of the season. The odds for the finals were bad when our captain, Celso Ahumada, suffered an accident and couldn't continue playing. Nevertheless a swift offensive combined with closed defensive work gave us a victory over Pine Crest - the South Florida Class B Championship trophy was ours. Our top scorer, the fourth of the league, was Alberto Ley (19.8 average per game), our best game against Miami Christian (95-71 ), overall results were 13 wins and 6 losses.

Baseball

As in other years, Belen took part this year in the countywide baseball tournament. Although we didn't have the same 1uck as in other years, the team played with the same eagerness. Our best all-around players were Villata, Walker, and Ardura.

Sneaky Walker steals a base

Baseball as all sports has its moments of tension. A ball batted right, a fast run at the proper moment, a quick throw might make the whole differ-

Vn Dia En Belen

LUNCH!
a jugar basket

A veces los libro·s ofrecen respuestas

Biologia: matas, gusanos, ranas.

Barriga llena coraz6n contento

FINAL vows OF FRS., OTTO MARTINEZ AND RICARDO MOREYRA.

IConsecration is a very serious matter. It demands total abandonment to God. To attain it, a Jesuit must take several permanent vows after having been several years in the Society. This year two of the priests at Belen, two of our professors, did so. We hope their future lives will be a constant renewal of those vows.

Graduation Day: June 10, 1967

" It wasn't your choice to be born in this world. If it doesn't fulfill your expectations, it is your choice, your responsibility to change it."

A few steps down the hall, a few introductory words start the long awaited ceremony.

Father Fitzgerald, S.J., starts the long awaited graduation as Father Provicial and Msgr. Fitzpatrick look on with interest.

" in other words, Belen has been a second home."

For Rivera as for all of us this was a great moment

A brief handshake makes Amado Vifia a graduate '67

The last months were the hardest for you, but you knew how to overcome them

A serious look from Pino, a new road opens up, the moment is very serious

We have to carry the message of Christ to the world. This is the meaning of Vatican II, which Msgr. Fitzpatrick conveyed so clearly to us

Lleven a Cristo.

I would like to thank the effort of all of those who have helped and made possible the making of our Yearbook this year.

Our photographer this year, Jim Payette did a marvelous job and therefore we thank him and we hope we have him again for next year.

It has been a real pleasure to have been working for the yearbook, we had some wonderful times, and above all we have gained a lot of experience needed for our future lives.
