Synopsis Synopsis

When a group of schoolboys survives a plane crash on a deserted island, they find themselves thrust into a world without adults, rules, or rescue. At first, they cling to order — building shelters, keeping a signal fire, and hoping to be saved. But as fear and hunger grow, the island becomes a battleground between reason and instinct, leadership and chaos. What begins as a game of survival transforms into a chilling struggle for power, revealing the darkness that lurks beneath even the most innocent faces.

Welcome to Lord of the Flies!

Welcome to Lord of the Flies!

When people hear that title, they often think of chaos, of boys gone wild, of savagery and darkness. But beneath the fear and frenzy lies something deeply human: the struggle to build community, to lead with compassion, and to choose connection when it feels easier to turn away. That is what drew us to this story.

That is what drew us to this story.

Directing this production with a group of students has been an incredible experience. Like the boys on the island, we began with an empty space and a few simple ideas, building a world together through movement, design, and imagination. Every sound, every gesture, every moment on this stage is the result of teamwork and trust. Creating this show reminded us that theatre, at its heart, is a collective act of faith in one another.

Lord of the Flies holds a mirror to the best and worst parts of humanity. It reminds us that true leadership is not about control, but about care; not about dominance, but about responsibility. Within our Jesuit tradition, it echoes the call to be Men for Others, to build community rooted in kindness and understanding.

The fire in this story begins as a signal for rescue, a symbol of hope. Over time, it becomes something more: a reminder of what keeps us human. As we worked on this production, that fire came to represent the light we create together when we lead with empathy and courage. My hope is that the same spark that guided us in telling this story shines through to you tonight.

Special Thanks:

Thank You to Muni Farms

Thank you to Muni Farms for lending the plants and trees featured in this production. Their generosity supports not only our show but also the appreciation of South Florida’s tropical landscape.

Bay Rum (Pimenta racemosa)

The Bay Rum tree, native to the Caribbean, grows well in Miami’s warm and coastal climate. It’s commonly used in local landscaping for its glossy leaves and ability to handle salt and wind. You can often find Bay Rum trees in residential gardens and parks throughout South Florida.

Scheffer’s Palm (Ptychosperma schefferi)

Scheffer’s Palm is a slender, clumping palm originally from New Guinea that has adapted to Miami’s environment. It’s popular in local landscaping for its look, moderate height, and tolerance for both sun and shade. This palm can be seen in tropical gardens, courtyards, and shaded outdoor spaces across the city.

We’re grateful to Muni Farms for sharing these plants with us. To learn more about their work and services, visit www.munifarms.com
