A well-rounded education includes a wide variety of OPPORTUNITIES.

Nearly 200 thespians from North High School, Eastlake Middle School, Willowick Middle School and South High School produced four plays throughout the course of the year: A Christmas Chaos, Alice @ Wonderland, The Crucible and Guys and Dolls. The Dazzle Awards, modeled after the Tony Awards®, recognize outstanding musical theater productions and students. School performers from South High were nominated for seven of the eleven categories and won the Best Costume Design Award.

Beyond the Curriculum

In order to ensure that students have workplace skills upon high school graduation, students are engaged in more than learning just curriculum content. While in classes, students work on projects in small groups and larger teams, learn how to effectively make presentations in front of their peers and adult audiences, and learn how to be respectful and responsible toward others. Willoughby-Eastlake students graduate with effective communication skills, solid decision-making skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with others.

Educational Alternatives for At-Risk Students

� 57 students earned their high school diplomas through the Bridge to Success Program.

Without this program, these students may not have graduated. � Success Academy students had markedly improved academic success. • Overall GPA growth = +1.71 GPA points • Overall improved attendance: 119.1 days • Overall decreased discipline occurrences: 72 occurrences • Overall improved reading MAP scores by +9 points • Overall improved math MAP scores by +15 points

Willoughby-Eastlake student athletes have numerous opportunities to grow physically, socially and emotionally through sports teams.

Booster clubs at both North and South High School assist to create opportunities for students. During the 2015-2016 school year, their donations totaled more than $120,000.

Parent/Teacher Organizations in all of the WilloughbyEastlake City School buildings create countless educational opportunities for students and staff. Thank you for your generous support.

Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools continues to provide a quality education to students while retaining its commitment to fiscal accountability. We are dedicated to the efficient disbursement of taxpayer dollars and work to ensure that the majority of those dollars continue to be spent on classroom instruction. Auditor of State Award – WilloughbyEastlake City Schools won the Auditor of State Award with Distinction for a perfect audit in recognition of transparent operations and exemplary record keeping for the fiscal year 2015.

Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools is committed to pursuing vigilant spending practices in order to maximize taxpayer resources. Through implementation of vendor contracts, the district saved approximately $1.3 Million in transportation costs during the 2015-2016 school year. In addition to cost savings in transportation, Willoughby-Eastlake was able to end a budget deficit by engaging in a contract with Chartwells Incorporated. While providing superior food choices, this contract took the district from an average loss of $200,000 per year to a guaranteed profit of $175,000 per year.

Saving Taxpayer Dollars

Did you know? The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission recommended tearing down all Willoughby-Eastlake facilities due to building conditions.

Passing the 2015 bond generated $115,750,000. Funds remain invested until the money is needed to pay for new construction and renovations. Employee time sheets will convert from paper to an on-line system. Since Washington Elementary was in need of approximately $13M in repairs, the School of Innovation was purchased and renovated. Cost = $5.5M The Northern Career Institute in Eastlake was renovated. Cost = $5M Since the “Tech Center” was in need of approximately $33M in repairs, the Northern Career Institute in Willoughby was purchased and renovated. Cost = $5.5M RESULT Result
