A profound moment with a woman on the streets of the Tenderloin was the catalyst for Ruthie Kim to start BJM.



Founded on Jesus and Justice, these remain central values of BJM

Teams started prayer walking the neighborhood, focused on illicit massage parlors where countless women are exploited.

BJM began hosting Women’s Day celebration outreaches. Here women received prayer, friendship, resources, and love.

BJM o ered pop-up manicures on the sidewalk of Ellis Street and built relationships with more and more women!


Sta taught ESL (English as Second Language) classes in the community.


Teams began their first outreaches in strip clubs on Broadway street with gift bags and prayer.



BJM began hosting Westmont College students as interns.
Sta partnered with the Salvation Army for a Family Christmas Outreach.

Outreach to the faith-based community about domestic violence with resource cards for women’s bathrooms.

The BJM community was invited to invest Beyond the Boundaries and fund the opening of The Well.

A new home for BJM and a women’s center was identified and a lease signed for both halves of the space. Teams of volunteers helped with the demo and build out.

A vision on a Muni bus of young girls dancing in tutus prompted the vision for the second half of the building and the start of youth programming.
The BJM community was invited to celebrate the “Rise” of something new in the Tenderloin.


Our first full year in The Well saw an expansion of program and presence.
We hosted our first dance recital, launched the Tribe, (our advanced discipleship dance class), and hosted regular gatherings of Art for the Heart for women in the Tenderloin.
We invited the BJM community to help “Cultivate” long term ministry for women and girls in San Francisco.

Chit Chat Cafe met regularly as a space for dozens of women to gather and share community in the Tenderloin

The youth program grows to include other activities such as a Back to School party and a Christmas Party

Our BJM community was reminded that it takes everyone to be a part of brighter futures for women and girls.

Ministry to the Spanish-speaking community, Spanish families, grew with the weekly Mothers’ Brunch

EdenMade launched, re-engaging with women in the Adult Entertainment Industry


The BJM community was invited to celebrate the “Legacy” of 10 years of ministry. Katelyn, (13 years) received the “Courageous Award.”
The 5th Annual Dance Recital, our largest one yet, was hosted at Brava Theater.


The youth ministry expanded to include a high school aged youth group.

Outreach to women in the adult entertainment industry expanded to a 3rd club, now reaching a total of 90 women a month.
Our annual family carnival returned in partnership with Tenderloin Park and Rec Center, local churches and dozens of volunteers.

BJM did not stop with the pandemic. Ministry increased! Many new initiatives launched to support families including the Brave Space groups, La Familia Bible Study, Operation Santa Claus and the Brighter Futures Benevolence Fund, impacting dozens of families


Youth programs continue both virtually and with socially distanced field trips. Students were supported with online learning during Homework Club.

In our post-COVID world, we entered back in with an emphasis on prevention ministries.
BJM began strategically providing holistic, wrap around family care, including fathers and sons, tripling impact and sharpening our mission

We hosted our largest group for our first ever summer camp, including brothers for the first time!

Azul is a social enterprise, pizza pop-up shop that focuses on workforce development and mentoring for youth ages 18-24. For girls ages 9-15, who have specifically experienced instability and systems, we launched SHINE mentorship focused on:
