Federal councillor Ueli Maurer, Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Defence, civil Protection and Sport (VBS)

With around 8000 participants and 2 races within 24 hours, the anniversary of the Jungfrau Marathon will be celebrated in fitting fashion. I offer all runners a warm welcome to the most beautiful marathon in the world. What you all achieve between Interlaken and Kleine Scheidegg merits my utmost admiration. While mastering the 1829 height metres, you are compensated for your

efforts as in no other marathon: you run facing the unique and magnificent backdrop of the Jungfrau massif. I wish you all, organizers and volunteers as well as runners, an unforgettable competition.

President of the Government kanton Bern Andreas rickenbacher,

The Jungfrau Marathon is doubly breathtaking: runners have to tackle the height dif-ference of 1,829 metres against the breathtaking backdrop of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Following the start in Interlaken the valley increasingly narrows. The rock faces become more shear and the paths steeper. The views, images and impres-sions change with each kilometre up to the finish line on the Kleinen Scheidegg. Only in the canton of Berne can you find such a diverse route. Wide fields,

beautiful lakes, forests, different cultures, city and countryside, majestic mountains it’s all there. Making Berne a Switzerland in miniature. It’s fortunate that on its 20th anniversary the Marathon is being held twice, on the Saturday and the Sunday — otherwise we’d have virtually no chance of seeing such level of diversity! Regardless as to whether you are running the race once or twice: I wish you the strength and stamina to complete it.
