Friday 10th November 2023 1. Health, Safety and Wellbeing Allergies-Could we ensure that as well as being mindful of pupils with allergies (nuts & fish) that the same applies to staff. Letters have been sent to parents reminding them that we are a nut and fish free school. Accordingly, please ensure that you refrain from eating fish and nuts in the staff room 2. Operational Updates Please be advised that in attempt to address work-life balance the SLT will be updating timetables. We are delighted to advise that we have employed two new teachers: 1. Shaun Purcell – PE teacher – extensive experience 2. Olla Obaye – Class teacher for Year 4, experience as a secondary school teacher, specialising in science. For our deep dives, day 1 Ofsted will look at: 3. Reading– please ensure that all reading records are kept up to date and that all children have books. Ensure that children are aware that they read in all subjects. Please make explicit fiction and non-fiction reading and the relevant reading skills. 4. Mathematics – Please refer to the Maths Crib sheet send. AfL is key – using a wipe board to gauge pupil prior knowledge is crucial. Research has shown that high-quality formative assessment has a powerful impact on learning. This assessment for learning happens organically when we, as teachers, work alongside children and help them identify what they know, what they don’t know and more importantly what they partially know. It allows all learners to assess the level of complexity they are working at while engaged in learning. Ensure that incorrect responses are addressed and that end of unit testing is conducted during the penultimate week, so that misconceptions and errors can be addressed. 5. Art – thank you Alison and Danny. To support the excellent work in the art room, please ensure that art standards are maintained during your lessons. 6. Science – thank you Noreen for addressing the anomalies in the science curriculum. 7. Physical Education – This will include play during play and lunch time, healthy eating and Health and Safety. Class PE will be considered, please ensure that Real PE is being used. Thank you to the catering team for promoting healthy eating and for providing healthy meals to pupils and staff! For all subjects at the beginning of the lesson, please ensure that pupils know that they are going to use their retrieval skills to help them remember more. They are going to retrieve: 1. What they did last lesson?; 2. What they did last topic?; 3. What they did last term?; 4. What they did last year? it is important to make explicit the links as how that knowledge builds on today’s learning.
