TRANSFER ADMISSIONS GUIDE
Since our founding in 1883, The University of Texas at Austin has been the place where you go when you want to make an impact on the world.
As one of the top 10 public universities in the nation and top 43 in the world, we research everything from squeezing more energy from sunlight to investigating how the human brain processes speech sounds. Longhorns are problem-solvers and knowledge-seekers who face challenges head-on and pursue unique learning experiences. How will you change the world?
We’re a diverse community known for our bold spirit, competitiveness and passion to define the future. Longhorns enjoy access to world-class resources and top-tier research as they examine ideas, pursue passions and explore new interests.
Many brilliant individuals, all moving in one direction.
Community is integral to the Longhorn experience with over 1,200 active student organizations. Transfer students are also encouraged to join a Transfer Interest Group (TrIG), where you’ll connect with fellow transfer students during your first semester on the Forty Acres.

If you want to change the world, you need to experience it.
Our unique experiential learning opportunities will set you apart in your career and help you reach your goals. No matter your major, your passion or your goals — UT can help you take the world by the horns.
Don’t just learn from the best professors in the world — work beside them to explore new horizons. Programs like our nationally recognized Accelerated Research Initiative give Longhorns the opportunity to initiate and engage in real-world research experiences. Here, you’ll design your own projects, study abroad, intern and volunteer, and gain the experience that will help you achieve your dreams.
Longhorn Startup puts you in front of prominent entrepreneurs for mentoring and advice. Pitch your idea and participate in speed-dating-style events to meet potential co-founders. Go further with a project-based course that identifies student entrepreneurs who are building their own startup companies and earn course credit while still in school.
Longhorns far and wide.
Across the world or across the country, find your perfect program and change your life forever. Each year, over 4,000 Longhorns study, intern and research abroad. 85 percent of UT alumni rank their experience abroad as the top contributor to their success. We offer over 400 academic, internship and service-learning programs in 100+ countries around the globe and over $1 million in scholarships. Experiences like our faculty-led programs provide the study-abroad experience in a shorter timeframe while allowing you to receive credit that fits into your degree plan. We also offer shorter-term exchange and affiliated programs as well as internships.
Education abroad isn’t just about changing the location of your classroom. You can prepare for your future success by interning, conducting research and gaining hands-on experience — all while still graduating on time.
The capital city is bursting with entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for unearthing new discoveries. In addition, Austin has vibrant, internationally renowned music, film and art scenes, and a thriving economy that leads the way in the technology, engineering and health care industries. Combine all of that with an open-minded sense of community and a deep appreciation for all kinds of people and all kinds of dreams, and you’ve got your new hometown.
