Essay and Short Answer Prompts for All Applicants
Required Essay (500-650 words)
Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you’ve already written, one that responds to a different prompt or one of your own design.
Required Short Answers (approximately 250-300 words)
1. Why are you interested in the major you indicated as your first-choice major?
2. Think of all the activities — both in and outside of school — that you have been involved with during high school. Which one are you most proud of and why? (Guidance for students: This can include an extracurricular activity, a club/organization, volunteer activity, work or a family responsibility.)
Optional Short Answer (approximately 250-300 words)
3. Please share background on events or special circumstances that you feel may have impacted your high school academic performance.

Honors Programs
Based on the major you select, you may be eligible to apply to one or more honors programs. Learn more about how to apply for honors at utex.as/honors.
International Applicants
International freshman applicants are required to submit the TOEFL/IELTS exam in addition to the items listed on the freshman checklist. For more information about applying as an International applicant, visit utex.as/international.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
Freshman applicants are automatically considered for scholarships when they apply for admission. There is no separate application. Students are encouraged to submit a financial aid application to be considered for merit and need-based awards.
The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid administers some scholarships with qualifications that may require additional questions. The Scholarship Interest Form will be available through MyStatus once you have submitted your admission application. Learn more at utex.as/scholarships.
