Transfer Admission
If you have already started your post-secondary studies at another college or university after graduating from high school or earning a GED, and have or will have earned 24 semester hours of required transferable coursework at another college or university, you can apply for transfer admission. Please note that the option to use coursework in progress is not available for spring semester applicants.
Applying for Admission Checklist
When applying for the fall or summer semesters, complete the online application at CommonApp.org. If applying for the spring semester, complete the application at ApplyTexas.org. If you are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and did not graduate from a Texas high school, apply for transfer admission via ApplyTexas as an international applicant.
The application will include:
• One required essay (plus an additional essay for select majors)
• Application fee or fee waiver
Submit the additional required items:
• College transcript(s)
• Any major-specific item(s)
• Expanded resume
You may also submit:
• Any high school transcript(s)
• Up to two letters of recommendation
After your application is complete:
• Regularly check MyStatus at admissions.utexas.edu/mystatus
• Apply for on-campus housing at utex.as/housing
• Submit FAFSA or TASFA as soon as possible
• Apply for Texas Exes scholarships at texasexes.org/scholarships
Important Dates
SUMMER/FALL MARCH 1
All applicants who meet the March 1 deadline will receive an admission decision by June 15.
SPRING SEPTEMBER 1
All applicants who meet the September 1 deadline will receive an admission decision by mid-December.
Please note, items must arrive in our office by the applicable deadline. When a deadline occurs on a Saturday or Sunday, the admission application will remain open until 11:59 p.m. (Central) the following Monday.

Required Essays
Transfer applicants must submit one essay responding to Topic A. Applicants to the School of Architecture are required to upload Topic D in addition to Topic A. To review current essay topics, please visit utex.as/transfer-essays
Major-Specific Items
For complete information on any additional required/optional materials for your major choice, such as auditions, portfolios, calculus readiness requirements and more, visit utex.as/transfer-major-reqs.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
Apply for admission and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) to be considered for the full range of financial aid. The scholarship application deadline is March 15. Learn more at utex.as/financial-aid
Honors Programs
Transfer applicants may apply to honors programs connected to their area of study. To be considered for an honors program, submit your application for admission, then complete other steps as outlined by the program to which you are applying.
