Residential fire in Montery Park causes $775,000 in damages On October 6, 2013 at 1:44 a.m. the Monterey Park Fire Department responded to 243 W. Markland Drive in the City of Monterey Park for a residential structure fire. Monterey Park fire units, with the assistance of Alhambra, San Gabriel, Montebello, Pasadena and South Pasadena fire departments, responded to the incident. Upon arrival, Monterey Park fire units encountered a large two story residential structure that was fully involved in fire. An aggressive fire attack was established with over 50 firefighters, which included nine engine companies, four ladder trucks, two rescue ambulances, one air utility and three battalion chiefs which enabled the fire to be confined to residence of origin and brought under control in 1 hour and 45 minutes. On Thursday, October 3, 2013 at approximately 8:00 p.m. two female pedestrians ages 59 and 73 were crossing at the intersection of California and Central Avenue when they were struck by a vehicle. The vehicle, described by witnesses is a white or light gray colored compact to mid-size 4-door. The vehicle fled the location without stopping southbound on Central Avenue. Both women were treated by Glendale Fire Department Paramedics and transported to L.A. County Hospital. This hit and run accident follows another that occurred on Wednesday, Octo-
ber 2nd. In the Wednesday accident, another female in her 70’s was struck by a vehicle which fled. The Glendale Police Department is seeking the public’s help in providing any information that may assist in the identification of drivers in either of these hit and runs.
