Garfield teacher sex trial postponed BY SHEL SEGAL A judge on Monday postponed a preliminary trial for an Alhambra Unified School District teacher, according to a published report. That teacher – 43-yearold Jeffrey Hideki Yoshitake – worked at Garfield Elementary School and is accused of “having a seven-year sexual relationship with a former student,” according to that report. Yoshitake was placed by the district on administrative leave on Feb. 28. His alleged victim went to the Monterey Park Police Department a day earlier with police officials letting the district know about the case the next day, according to that report. Yoshitake’s attorney Bill Seki asked Judge Don Umhofer for a postponement until June 30 as “there was a lot of investigation still needed,” according to that report. Home invasion robbery in La Crescenta Victim held at gunpoint Deputies from the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station received a 911 call regarding a possible trespasser at 2900 block of Los Olivos Lane in La Crescenta at about 1030 PM. Upon the arrival of deputies, deputies contacted the individual described in the call. The individual turned out to be the victim of a robbery. The victim had gone to his neighbor’s house and knocked on their door to have them call police. The victim was still bound and could not call police himself. According to the victim, he had gone to sleep for the night. He woke to

the two suspects tying him up. The suspects took turns holding him at gunpoint while the other ransacked the home. The suspects left the location with an unknown amount of cash, jewelry, and electronics. The victim was not injured during the crime. Burbank to open doors as “Host Town” for the Special Olympics World Games Los Angeles 2015 Burbank announced today that the community has been officially selected to participate in the Special Olympics World Games “Host Town” program from July 21 – 24, 2015. Before the Special Olympics World Games begin on July 25, 2015, more than 7,000 athletes from 177 countries will be welcomed to Southern California through the “Host Town” program. One hundred communities from San Luis Obispo to San Diego will have the honor of being selected as

In the race to replace embattled Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell won the right to face former undersheriff and current Gardena Mayor Paul Tanaka in Tuesday’s Primary Election. McDonnell finished well in first in the election, garnering 49.15 percent of the vote, while Tanaka received 14.74 percent. Falling short were Bob Olmsted with 9.89 percent, James Hellmold with 7.91 percent, Patrick Gomez with 6.74 percent, Todd Rogers with 6.14 percent and Lou Vince with 5.43 percent.
