San Gabriel Temple City High School Band and Pageantry United says Corps to appear in 2015 TOR Parade Band needs new uniforms-can you help? massage business laws too little, too late BY SHEL SEGAL The San Gabriel City Council recently passed an amendment to its ordinance to regulate the growth and operations of massage parlors in the Mission City. But some in town think it was too little, too late. According to Mary Ann Baldonado of the citizens’ group San Gabriel United, there are more than 50 massage parlors in a city of just four square miles. And that’s just too many. “We have more than any of our surrounding communities,” Baldonado said. “Alhambra has six and Monterey Park has way less than we have and Please see page 9

Arcadia firefighters “fill the boot” for MDA Firefighters from the Arcadia Firefighters Association participated in their 2nd Annual Fill the Boot for MDA on April 11th. In just four hours, the Arcadia Firefighters raised $6,300 to benefit the local chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), an organization dedicated to finding a cure for muscular dystrophy, ALS, as well as other related diseases. The Arcadia Firefighters volunteered their time Filling the Boot for MDA at the intersection of Huntington and Baldwin in the city of Arcadia. The Firefighters proceeds benefit MDA’s programs and services including clinics, summer camps and funding scientific research.

The Temple City High School Pride of Temple City Band and Pageantry Corps will be marching in next year’s 2015 Tournament of Roses Parade. This is the second time in 11 years the band has been in the parade. The band needs to

Easter Bunny visits kids at California Hospital Medical Center The Easter Bunny and personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau visited over 50 children at California Hospital Medical Center for the 11th Annual Easter Bunny Operation last week. The Sheriff’s Department partners with the Easter Bunny Foundation to bring excitement and joy to hospitalized children and their families. The Easter Bunny greeted many patients and his helpers, Special Victims Bureau Detectives and Professional Staff, distributed gifts which included a new

Teenager’s pick up hits elderly Arcadia men crossing Huntington – one dead An elderly Arcadia man died and another was injured late Wednesday after they were struck by a pickup truck while crossing Huntington Drive near the Westfield Santa Anita shopping mall, according to Arcadia police. A 78-year-old Arcadia man and a 76-year-old Arcadia man, were hit as they crossed Huntington Drive at Gate 1 just after 9 PM. Both men were taken to Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, where the 78-year-old man succumbed to his injuries a short time later, Cullen said. His identity was not available. Police said the intersection is normally controlled by a traffic signals, but the signals were not functioning due to a power outage in the area.
