The first transgender student-athlete in the state of California is being allowed to play for the Azusa High School Aztecs this season, according to a published report. The report said that Pat Cordova-Goff, a 17-year-old senior at the school made the team on merit and skills. The student, who identified herself as a girl, is on the school’s cheerleading team and also was a member of the baseball team as a freshman. Cordova-Goff is able to take advantage of new guidelines put out by the California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section, the body that governs prep sports in most of Southern California, according to the report. The new guidelines deal with gender identity

Second murder in Pasadena in as many 70th Annual Temple City Camellia Festival days starts Friday Police have identified a
teenager killed in a shooting in Pasadena that left two other people wounded Monday evening. Steven Ascencio, 18, of Pasadena died at the scene of the shooting about 10 p.m El Sereno Avenue and Cedar Street. A white SUV was seen leaving the scene of the crime. Police speculate that this could be a drive-by shooting. No other details were immediately available.
