Monrovia High stomp on Arcadia High, 49-7 BY SHEL SEGAL Wildcats running back Kurt Scoby rushed for 286 yards and five touchdowns on just 12 carries as visiting Monrovia High stomped on Arcadia High, 49-7, on Friday night in a nonleague game. Scoby scored on runs of 94, 50, 45, 21 and 20 yards as the Apaches defense had no idea how to contain the senior rusher. Monrovia coach Ryan Maddox said Scoby has a bright future ahead of him. “He’s got a couple of offers at the next level,” Maddox said. “This won’t be the end of football for him. He’s a very good young man. He works hard. It’s just the beginning for him.” He added his team played well and on all cylinders. “Our offensive line did a great job,” Maddox said. “Defensively, we were lights out. Long-term full closure of Mayflower Ave. at railroad crossing in Monrovia starts - Sept. 26 Crews will be constructing grade crossing improvements on Mayflower Ave at the railroad crossing in the city of Monrovia, as part of the 11.5-mile Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension light rail project. This grade crossing work requires a full closure of Mayflower Ave at the railroad crossing for just over two months. Live horse racing returns to Santa Anita - Friday, Sept. 27 Santa Anita Park and the Thoroughbred Owners of California (TOC) have announced they will jointly offer fans a $50,000 Pick Six Bonus on all non-carryover Sundays, throughout Santa Anita upcoming Autumn Meet, which opens Friday, Sept. 27. Monrovia man charged with making series of threatening calls arraigned in West Covina A 26-year-old man with a history of making false bomb threats was charged today with multiple counts of making criminal threats and falsely reporting an emergency, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Gerardo Cortez , 26, was scheduled to be arraigned sometime after 1:30 p.m. at Los Angeles Superior Court, West Covina Branch, in Department 4. Prosecutors have requestedhis bail be set at $300,000 instead of $250,000.
