Do You Know Your Beach BOOSTER Media Group?

Locally Owned and Operated right here in Wasaga Beach

Our Canada Post distribution of the print issue to mailboxes throughout Wasaga Beach means our local beach BOOSTER publication now reaches every household & business in town. Calculated readership is currently 34,000 plus.

As our publication continues to expand our readership and content, perhaps some are not aware of our local beginnings and how Beach BOOSTER Media Group was born?

Joe Bickerstaff of Beach BOOSTER has been a long time supporter of Wasaga Beach, since he embraced The Beach as a special place in the 1960s. Joe was known locally and afar over the decades for his love of the history of our town and the promotion of what we have to offer. Joe's name often appeared in letters and comments in the local media and was often mentioned in promotional media stories about events and activities in The Beach. Former Wasaga Beach Mayor Cal Patterson often referred to Joe's knowledge of our past, while also joking that Joe should be on the town's payroll for his never ending promotion of our town.

In late 2009, as we watched the new and much needed Wasaga Beach transit system grow, Joe had an idea to not only enhance the new Bus Routes in town, but also offering local businesses and events a cost effective way of advertising and promoting within our town. With a business plan and the enthusiasm needed to start a new venture in town, Joe approached the town of Wasaga Beach with his plan to install community friendly transit stop benches throughout town at his expense, at appropriate transit stops. After several months of meetings, Joe and his newly formed local company, Beach BOOSTER had an agreement with the town to install his benches at up to 35 bus stops in town. With a huge financial investment for any new business and a true desire to promote transit and local businesses, Joe and Beach BOOSTER purchased the Canadian made benches, had them delivered to The Beach and then over the summer of 2010, completed installation at approved stops all over town.

In November 2010, a new, truly local publication was born to compliment the bench advertising opportunities. The very first issue of beach BOOSTER was a single sheet, two sided, black & white publication advertising local businesses who were eager to support our new local initiative. Offering event listings and local stories on the two sides of the beach BOOSTER, the only local publication available at distribution points all over town. The new beach BOOSTER was well received by our residents and of course our valued visitors who were able to see local event listings, businesses and local stories while visiting The Beach.

Within just a few months, the new beach BOOSTER publication grew to the current format, as a multipage, full colour newspaper. The number of pages and our distribution continued to increase. Soon, our local publication joined the “digital world” with each and every issue being uploaded to be available on computers and eventually, on the smart phones that were soon to appear in the hands of people everywhere. Although the original “digital issues” are a far cry from the very cool, truly interactive beach BOOSTER Digital Issue online today, we were ahead of our time with providing this local publication online. The current and past issues are always available to enjoy & share from our popular website.

Right from the beginning, Beach BOOSTER has sponsored and supported many, many activities and events in town while actively participating in most of them. It was Joe who arranged the original meeting with Canadian musician and event organizer Chuck Jackson and invited Chuck to The Beach to discuss a possible Wasaga Beach Blues Festival. This annual festival continues as The Stonebridge Wasaga Beach Blues Festival and Beach BOOSTER continues to sponsor the event each year

In addition of sponsoring countless other community events, Beach BOOSTER has presented some of the most memorable in Wasaga Beach's history. “The Way Wasaga Was” event presented by Beach BOOSTER in 2011, brought former Wasaga Beach folks back to The Beach and it turned into a truly heart warming and emotional reunion. Years before the Main Street Market, the Beach BOOSTER “Back to The Beach” events were the first to bring residents and visitors BACK to Historic Main Street post fire, with vendors and live entertainment once again happening on this once vibrant street. Beach BOOSTER brought thousands to our Main Beach area in January for our two SLEDFEST events, providing the excitement of snowmobile racing on the World's Longest Freshwater Beach. The roar of motorsports returned to our famous Main Beach area with Beach BOOSTER's Wasaga Grand Prix held in June 2014, as professional kart racers gaining speeds up to 120 mph, claimed that our road coursethat included a straightaway on Beach Drive, was among the best in the world.

While participating at the 2013 Stonebridge Wasaga Beach Blues Festival, Joe met the talented and renowned “radio guy”, Peter Whitaker who was acting as the Stage Manager at the event. Pete immediately took an interest in the truly local media group, and our offerings of information, advertising & promotional opportunities. At that time, Peter was operating and managing several of the countries most popular online radio stations and offered his experience in helping us add “radio” to our growing local company. Within 48 hours of meeting this friendly and enthusiastic “radio guru”, Beach BOOSTER Radio was broadcasting local information, programming and great music to the world!

The Town of Wasaga Beach, the Wasaga Beach Chamber of Commerce and others have recognized the community involvement and the services of Beach BOOSTER Media Group with many awards and certificates. Joe was named Wasaga Beach Citizen of the Year in 2017. In 2016, Joe received the town's Historical Appreciation Award for his continued efforts in keeping Wasaga Beach's history alive, and was recognized as Community Leader (Canada 150) in 2018.

Beach BOOSTER Media Group's office and studio is located in the Stonebridge Town Centre in the heart of Wasaga Beach's downtown, with the Beach BOOSTER logo is proudly displayed on the building located at 1 Market Lane. The only locally owned and operated media company in The Beach, provides creative advertising and promotional opportunities in print, digital, online and radio.

Wasaga Beach's Beach BOOSTER started with the investment of purchasing the town's original transit stop benches to enhance our brand new transit system in 2010 and now this home grown company continues to thrive as the “voice of Wasaga Beach” due to the valued support of our many advertisers and editorial contributors to our publication (print & digital) and radio programming. Beach BOOSTER Media Group is proudly local and will continue to promote our town, its people and businesses in a positive way
