Morongo Taco Festival is One Hot Tamale of a Fiesta • On May 30, 1911, the inaugural Indianapolis 500 is run at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana. R
ev up your appetite for this celebration of everything tacos because this gathering is the whole enchilada (sorry, couldn’t resist). Seriously, though, you’ll find a seemingly endless smorgasbord of tacos from over 30 gourmet chefs and food trucks from across Los Angeles and the Inland Empire serving up both hard and soft tacos made with chicken, pork, beef, seafood, veggies and just about anything else your tastebuds can dream of. Salsa, guacamole and other Mexican fares will also be fresh and ready for sampling and enjoying. The Morongo Outdoor Pavilion will also host bars and beverage stations offering agua fresca, margaritas, beer, water and soda. The entire “Taco-topia” festival works on the token system, where guests will purchase taco tokens onsite for $2 each to be used with the taco vendors. ATMs will be on the premises to obtain cash, and credit cards are welcome too.
Taco vendors will be competing to receive an award for the perfect taco. In addition to the taco award presentation, decided upon by popular vote, there will be a hot chile pepper-eating contest (keep the water handy), an interactive photo area, a social media photo contest, a tiny taco dog competition and live music on stage. Attendees will also have a chance at Morongo Rewards Spin & Win. Another highlight will be the Lucha Libre wrestling demonstrations, featuring the unique and historical Mexican free-form wrestling style in which wrestlers wear colorful masks and show off their rapid sequences of holds
and high-flying maneuvers. Each minor must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older. Those who purchase tickets in advance online will receive a tee shirt while supplies last. This premier party presents a real-life fantasy land of tacos, tequila, tunes and more, so prepare to get your taco-tasting on. Morongo Taco Festival is held 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 18. Admission is $10 per person (online or at the gate). Tacos are $2 each, beverages sold separately. Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa is located at 49500 Seminole Drive in Cabazon.
