abot’s Pueblo Museum will host its third and final Cultural Weekends March 22-24, featuring artists from Hotevilla, Arizona. Enjoy an exceptional setting, observe master artisans at work, and experience the artistry + ancestry of Hopi Kachina carvers. Then shop for a cause! Your purchase helps the artists and supports Cabot’s legacy of cultural respect, art, and community. The Cultural Weekend is free and open to the public. Engage with master carvers as they create traditional Hopi Kachina dolls. These dolls are carved of cottonwood root and
painted with natural pigments. These artists are descended from a long line of carvers and use ancestral techniques. Darance Makwesa Chimerica has 20 years carving and developing his own style and technique. He usings his own hand wood tools and paint from mineral pigmnets. His kachina dolls are how hewoul see them in the physical forwm when they come to visit Hopi. Raynard Lalo and Gene Lalo are brothers who learned from watching his farther carve. Every doll is unique for they all tell a story about life, animals, plants, and the natural elements.
Cabot’s Pueblo Museum is located at 67616 East Desert View Avenue, Desert Hot Springs, and offers tours Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $13. Group tours are available. For information visit CabotsMuseum.org or call 760-329-7610.
