Be prepared for the Total Lunar Eclipse that will occur on January 21, and will be 100 percent visible from Palm Springs. When this happens, the Moon can turn red, earning it the nickname of “Blood Moon.” The lunar eclipse on January 21, also happens to be a so-called “SuperMoon.” This means that the moon will be at perigee or the point in its elliptical orbit at which it is closest to Earth. Dr. Stephenie Slahor is the author of the book “Meteors” and is a Palm Springs resident and university professor whose
hobbies include kayaking and rock hounding. She is a member of the Shadow Mountain Gem and Mineral Society of Palm Springs and likes introducing her audiences to the fun of those “visitors from outer space” — meteors.
