Palm Springs Pride Weekend encourages youth to express their voices By Alison Elsner
G
reater Palm Springs Pride is set to take over Palm Springs with the 2018 theme of “Youth Power for Change.” During this year’s parade on November 4, the usual Grand Marshal waving to crowds from a convertible will be replaced by at least 500 youth from across the Coachella Valley who will walk in the parade and collectively serve as Grand Marshal. This year, organizers decided to highlight
and honor young people as a reinforcement of recent grass-roots efforts locally and nationally that are empowering the LGBTQ community to express their voice and contribute to public policy. Events will include Trina Turk Pride Kick Off, “Dip into Pride” pool party at Hotel Zoso, Pride Run and Walk 5K through Old Las Palmas, Arenas Road Block Party, Encore: A Celebration of American Idols, Eight4Nine Champagne Pride Parade Brunch, Transgender Equality March dur-
ing the Sunday parade and many other festive and meaningful activities throughout the weekend. Greater Palm Springs Pride as an organization has advocated for equality and diversity in the Coachella Valley for 30 years, promoting awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals. The Greater Palm Springs Pride Weekend takes place November 1-4 in Palm Springs. Ticket prices vary depending on event, many are free. For more information, visit pspride.org.
