CELEBRATING THE RESIDENTIAL PARK COMMUNITIES FOR 63 YEARS
‘The Wedding Singer’
at Palm Canyon Theatre – Party like it’s 1985 By Alison Elsner
P
alm Canyon Theatre is excited to present its live, summer stage show. The story takes us back to 1985, where rock star wannabe, Robbie Hart, is New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer. He’s the life of the party until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot
through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. As luck would have it, Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and, unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever. PCT is an award winning, re-
gional repertory theater company which operates primarily with volunteers and produces about 13 Broadway musicals and classic plays each year. Programs also offer a children’s theatre camp and production. The charming playhouse is located smack between downtown Palm Springs and the Uptown Design District, giving
theatre-goers the chance to enjoy a cocktail or dinner before or after the show at one of the numerous nearby restaurants and cafés. “The Wedding Singer” is on stage from July 6-15 at Palm Canyon Theatre located at 538 North Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs. Know Draught, No Drought Draughtsman open-concept bar-restaurant thrives By Charlie Price
T
here’s plenty to love about Draughtsman, brought to us by the owners of Arrive Hotel & Restaurants. The architecture pays homage to all things modern in Palm Springs and is easy on the eyes. The open-bar with its mix of fine food and craft brews is a winning concept, too, so let’s start there. One of Draughtsman’s finest, and downright popular, elements is
its Happy Hour (3-6 p.m.) Best bets for small noshes include the sweet, creamy Goat Cheese Stuffed Dates and BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders, but don’t rule out vegetarian options, such as a remarkable Artichoke Dip or the Cauliflower McNuggets with its side of vegan ranch and celeryroot apple slaw. Still, full meals here are, well, quite filling. A few that put creative spins on longtime favorites include the Tuna Melt— it’s served open-faced with cheese
and caramelized onions—and any of Draughtsman’s robust burgers. Adventurous souls: We dare you to take on the Draughtsman Burger, where two dry-aged beef patties, white American cheddar, and the venue’s special spicy relish make this meal a real event. The Draughtsman is located at 1501 North Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs. For more information visit draughtsmanpalmsprings.com
